Essentially I had about 5 Dash boons meaning I could dash continuously and quickly annihilate a room full of enemies and each dash was damaging enemies in 3 or 4 different ways.

Dash boons are the best - I had a great run last night which sounds similar to this, just turned Zagreus into a dart of devastation, flying around each room destroying everything in his path!

I think it's both, I still think learning plays a large role as you have to apply it in all the choices of boons etc.

You're right though that it isn't as pure as other roguelites. I think on balance that is to the game's credit.

Yeah I think I would agree as well, it strikes a good compromise between victory coming as an element of the player learning and upping their skill level as well as simply "levelling up". It seems to be doing a decent job of scaling things with the player to an extent as well - earlier areas do seem to get harder over time, whilst still allowing you to feel like you have grown beyond them

There's definitely a *lot* to be learnt in terms of how to play the game, be it with your movement, your choice of attack for specific enemies etc.

About to battle Hades for the second time. Wish me luck.

Edit: no dice. Also battled back to face him with the sword and got nowhere near. The close combat battles are tough

Another three runs cut short at what I presume to be the final hurdle. :(

Going to need to learn this battle

I escaped! :msgreen:

Used the Rail. Had a few boons that made the special inflict over 800HP base damage. Abused this for most of the run including the final battle, by which time I'd also picked up a Daedalus upgrade that enlarged the damage field.

Knew this was the run going into the fight as I still had all three death defiance uses remaining. Didn't need any of them though.

Awesone, nice going! Especially with no death defiance uses. Rail special can get so good and is great for Hades from behind the pillars :datass:

It won't be long until your next escape now. Hopefully you're feeling invested in the story/characters to see it through!

Absolutely, the story is very well told. I am generally a completionist at heart so I will look to do as much as I see that is relevant.

I think the main problem I've experienced is tailoring the builds towards getting through the normal chambers, typically those builds have struggled with the Elysium bosses and onwards. This time I figured if I can get to Hades I can keep my distance and just bomb him which worked a treat.

Trying for a completion with another weapon - I've made it to the end with each one, but...

Hades gets me every time. His second phase seems much easier than the first, or perhaps by the time I get to that point I am playing very safe in order to preserve the little health I have remaining. I have managed to suss out when he's going to do his spin attack which is helpful.

The last run I had was with the fists with some pretty meh boons tbh - the best I had was a couple of damage increases for the special where each hit was dealing around 300 damage.

I think I'm going to move away from Poseidon's Tidal Dash boon to Athena's which IIRC deflects damage, see if that helps.

Orange, Aaron and co, do you have any go to boons at the start? I've been big on Tidal Dash because it enables you to quickly obliterate rooms just by dashing at enemies and is absolutely lethal if you can pair it with Typhoon Fury.

Tidal dash is definitely my go to boon for the reason you described. Maybe not so much for clearing enemies but ensuring you have space to react after you dash.

Some of Zeus' boons get very overpowered if you synergies them well. You can get a boon which means all your lighting hit multiple enemies which is very fun if you have a lot of lightning boons already.

Extra dashes from Hermes is also useful.

I'll often go for the "rarest" boom these days - as rarer boons aren't just more powerful from the get go, they also scale up much better if you level them up with a pom.

Tidal dash is great. I'll always try and get speed up or speed up after dash from Hermes, really helps with dodging Hades spin attack (as the standard dodge doesn't quite get out of the way). Artemis has my favourite call if that comes up, it can do some insane damage to bosses. Otherwise it really depends on the weapon and how the run goes!

I really need to play around with the Calls, I don't think I've picked one up too many times and on the few occasions when I did it seemed a bit weak so I never bothered experimenting with it more

Adam Ant Rail + Zeus chain attack. Behold for I am become death.

I've picked this up again seeing the thread has been bumped. Its such a great game and has straight away got its claws into me again. I'm currently grinding for diamonds to unlock further work orders.

Also I've just had my ass handed to me by Charon. Good grief I didn't stand a chance

Calls are really good, you definitely should! Save up a full god gauge and use a greater call. After Artemis, Poseidon's is my next favourite - can still do plenty of damage and grants invulnerability so you can use it defensively too. Don't ignore them!

I'll definitely have to play about with them some more then! I think the one I had tried was from Poseidon - just seemed to turn me into a green swirl for a about 2 seconds and dealt very little damage to anything :|

Save up a full god gauge and I think you'll see the difference.

I think I posted this before but this run I had a really good artemis call - with a full god gauge it fired 10 arrows, each doing 312 damage with a 35% crit chance. That's 3120 damage at minimum in a single shot!

Fair enough. What actually fills the god gauge? Is it based on dealing damage or something else? It resets when you clear an encounter right so there's no point in trying to save it up between rooms?
