More or less identical to my numbers as I recall. I really should get back to this.

Chaos Gates, is the juice ever worth the squeeze?

Do you complete all the tunnels before final boss or stop once you've found the dog bait?

Almost always I reckon. Lots of the "bad" effects aren't that problematic to deal with, especially if it's something like disabling your standard attack or cast when you are going with a full special focus that run.

It can be a gamble, it depends really. I've certainly benefited from clearing all of it, and probably on balance that gamble has paid off more than it hasn't (leaving me with less health for Hades). But if you are already in a good position with a good setup and high/full health you might not bother taking the risk. In post-game/epilogue runs I tended to clear everything just to beat all the sub-boss enemies enough times to complete their lore entries.

Re: Styx

I read that the 'dog bait' is always in one of the 'non-skull' chambers, so I tackle those first meaning you only ever need to do two or three. That theory has held water for me during the times I've reached Styx since.

I am terrible at this game but I am really enjoying it.

I've made it to Hades twice and he's obliterated me both times. I will kill that strawberry floater eventually though :x

I've had to switch God Mode back on as I was getting a bit frustrated with falling at the last hurdle every run.

Also the keepsake that keeps you invincible to the first 5 boss attacks is really good. Can't believe I hadn't considered it before.

I'm pretty certain it can be in any of the chambers. It's not determined up front, and the chance of it appearing increases the more chambers you clear, so it is most likely to be appear at the end of the 2nd or 3rd chamber I think regardless of the order you tackle them in. So most of the time you can avoid the skull chambers if you want to, but it's not a guarantee.

Downloaded this game earlier this week and really enjoying it so far. Managed to make it to Hades for the first time yesterday and actually did pretty well for a first attempt as I got him halfway down his second health bar. I had a pretty good setup with the spear where I could simply hold the button down for quick successive attacks, and I had Athena's call which is pretty powerful if you max out the call meter.

Have only just unlocked the fists and gun so looking forward to trying them out, although normally I just choose whichever weapon gives the bonus darkness for that run. Prior to last night my best runs have been with the bow or shield, I haven't used the sword an awful lot but my first couple of runs with it were awful

EDIT: I think I need to force myself to pick up Cast boons for a few runs as I basically never use it at this point, I assume it can become pretty powerful with the right setup.

Yeah pretty much anything can become powerful, cast included. Although Mirror of Night upgrades make a big difference when it comes to cast.

I've managed to stumble onto a pretty reliable base setup now which, along with my improved gameplay, has enabled me to 12 escapes so far, 1 for the first two aspects of each weapon.

I generally look to get a mixture of Ares, Athena and Zeus boons which provides multiple deflection, lightning and doom effects. I also look to focus either on the attack or special to make it as lethal as possible and utilise that with Cast and Call abilities. This approach combined with some Dionysus and Hermes boons works really well for Hades and I can finish it even with a poor boon runout.

In terms of the story (spoilers ahead):
Persephone is home! I now need to focus on improving relationships with everyone. What's the best/easiest/quickest way to gain nectar?

Having a courteous relationship with Hades feels so strange

You need to start using the Pact of Punishment and the heat meter to farm resources.

Have you unlocked everything with the House Contractor as well? That helps.

Dionysus has a boon that gives health up when collecting nectar and gives you a free nectar on taking it - makes collecting nectar in runs more worthwhile for that run. Make sure to fish too.

I know, I'm looking for something a little more frequent. Right now the best I can see is to trade diamonds for keys and then keys for nectar with the trader.

I found trading to be rarely worth it given that all of the resources are needed in large amounts for various upgrades (and diamonds are a lot harder to come by than nectar) - but the limited time trades he offers can be good. I think nectar was the one resource I ended up with lots of in reserve.

Does the PoP award nectar? Otherwise it just seems I'll be hoping for a Dionysus boon once per run.

No it just lets you get boss drops with each weapon again for each level of heat you haven't cleared before (which is really useful!). I suppose you could then trade those for nectar if you wanted to.

You don't need that Dionysus boon though, it just makes the choice of going for nectar a bit more helpful for the run itself! You can always use his keepsake to guarantee a boon from him, which you could then spend your rerolls on to improve your chances of getting that free nectar and health effect.

Yeah I do new to start getting more diamonds and blood so I'm going to have to start using the PoP sooner or later. Just trying to complete non-heat runs with each aspect for each weapon first before worrying about heat.

finally got my 100th escape last night, upping my current escape win streak to 19. still not defeated Hades on extreme measures, one of the few things I still need to do. that one still eluding me

EDIT

just had my fastest escape time at 18 minutes 58 seconds. pleased with that. now got three weapons below the 20 minute time.
