I found the spear to be the easiest starter weapon, especially for just putting everything into the special. Backstab on recall is really helpful in Elysium for shield enemies and Theseus, and you can make use of shadow presence bonus backstab damage. Being at range just generally makes most fights easier anyway if you're still learning attack patterns and whatever.

If you can get breaching and vicious skewer from hammer upgrades you are absolutely golden. It can be a bit more boring to play though, I'll give you that

Unless you get lucky and nab auto-attack, spear runs are usually longer, too. It was my weapon of choice at first as well, and it's still remains my most used weapon, as it's the easiest to get to grips with while also learning how to play.

Interesting.

I find the shield the easiest and most fun to use.

Slamming peopl into walls feels so good when you get the boon that gives you 200 splash damage every time you do it :D

Shield is definitely friendly for being able to block. I rate it and the fists a lot more now. There isn't really a bad weapon but maybe the sword is the least interesting, at base at least.

I just hit 100 hours lol

5 escapes now, starting to get the hang of getting to the Hades fight without losing any of my death defiance's. which is handy. though I still lost even with 4, was a bad shield build.

I can see why people like it so much and it does a lot of clever things like giving you more story when you die, but after hours and hours of either getting demolished by Megaera or making it through with all my extra lives used up and on a sliver of health and then getting filtered by all the explosions, fire and jumping around enemies, then reading that apparently it takes lots of successful completions to get the whole story, I had to call it quits on this, as that is something that is just never going to happen.

Have you tried God Mode?

Why not just play the game to enjoy the way it changes things up as you progress? (New weapons, new variations on those weapons, new enemy behaviour, modifiers, etc, etc, etc.) I honestly thought the same as you soon after getting the credits, but here I am still playing it and thoroughly enjoying it.

Yes, try God Mode!

I think I just fundamentally don't get on with roguelites/likes/whatever for mental health reasons. Going round and round in the first area doesn't have a lot of mechanical variety, and the scraps of plot are fine but I don't find those kind of mechanical variations interesting on their own. Each death makes me feel like i'm wasting my time and could have done something else, and getting further makes me more anxious IRL and then the inevitable death just makes me miserable. Knoyleo summed it up well in the dark secrets thread:

I want to pick up a game, play through it, have the experience, and move on. I certainly don't want to learn an intricate combat system with a ton of variables, or learn map layouts, or have to put hours in to grind levels and unlock the actual fun stuff. There are other things in my life where I want to challenge myself and spend time improving a skill, but games aren't that any more.

I get that god mode is a helping system and has been gushed about in terms of accessibility and empowerment etc, but i think i'll just move on.

Incidentally, I've actually really enjoyed Hades, and it's held my attention in a way very few rogue likes ever have. I did switch on God mode though, and it massively helped that feeling of overall progression.

7 escapes so far, none with the sword, fists or gun as of yet. hopefully an escape with at least one of them can come soon

EDIT

now seen the credits, onto the next stage of the game. this may be my game of the year. maybe.

Did a 32 heat clear over the weekend :toot: I need to meet Sisyphus one last time to max out the relationship and then it's just a grind to buy up the rest of the house cosmetics/music!

i really need to start putting these heat things on, only ever do one or two, maybe once I finally get a gloves win. did get a 10 game win streak, came to a sudden end with a bad bow run though.

I basically just

- use whatever weapon has dark thirst
- set the heat to the first level I haven't cleared with that weapon so I can get the bounties

I'm up to about heat 10 with every weapon now, the jump for 32 was just for an unlock. There's not any point otherwise in setting the heat to higher than you need for the bounties.

almost got all the final unlocks for each weapon, just the bow and fists to go. I do hope there will be future updates to the game that could add in more weapons,. or even a new floor or two. probably wont be, but I would like it.

I just dont think I am feeling this game, I loved it to begin with but having to go from the start every time is starting to wear thin

Nice :toot:

I haven't played in a while, the final grind is a bit too grindy as its only gemstones and diamonds I need for the final unlocks and the character stories/events seem to have concluded. The only prophecy left is the duo boons which are sort of wiki reliant when they require specific builds I usually wouldn't try

I've only stopped playing this because I no longer have a DS4 to play with.
