I'm in the minority on this going by ResetEra, but I also always choose armour (yellow bar on skull icon mobs) damage when given the option. Makes things a wee bit easy in the more challenging rooms and mini boss and boss fights.

I am very much tending to focus on a single approach and then min-max as much as possible for it. My last bow run for example I basically never used standard attack and only took one boon for it (because there was no better choice). I just used special/cast all the time. Likewise my last run which was with the spear and I only ever used the special (and previously I did the opposite with the spear and only ever used attack).

I'm favouring damage boosting buffs where I get them, and I guess then using more of whatever attack type I've buffed generally, along with the mirror buffs to the blood stones that nerf enemies with those on them, but I'm probably not min/maxing optimally because I'm still just going through trying stuff out. Like I'll always take a fated boon over others if it's there.

I do fine against most of the normal enemies, but the bosses and mini bosses just completely ruin me still. Like the Doomstone can be a total ballache on a bow run, for instance, and leave me with no health, and while I was comfortable fighting Meg, now I have to face one of the other furies every time, I can't get past them any more, especially when you're fighting the one who rearranges the room layout until it's just a small square area with a length of corridor, and then sets up an AOE attack you can't get out of the range of.

I'm sure I just need to git gud, but I've been looking online at people who say they beat the whole thing after 20 odd runs, and it just baffles me.

Bow and arrow is one of the toughest weapons to get to grips with. I've only cleared the game with it once (total clears must be around 25-30) and made ample use of spray and pray option. The attack type which can crit if you hit when it blinks... meh. Too slow for me. Ditto the charge attack. (I bet they're the same attack :fp: My memory is bad.) It'd also help if you got lucky and were able to alter one of your chosen weapon's attack with Daedalus's hammer early in the game. Always pick the hammer when you're offered it!!

Yep, always picking the hammer when available, but I feel like they're appearing less often lately.

Lunchtime rail run, got Asterius but couldn't get Theseus after he started summoning Thor's help :x

It's when he's aiming his spear but the lightning (or whatever) forces you out from behind a pillar. There doesn't seem long to close on him for any attacks before you're forced back into cover. I can keep running around chipping away at his health but it takes so long I just don't last it out.

lmao, made it all the way to Hades on my next run

I switched on god mode, but still, I really lucked out with boons in that run, shield, poseidon knock backs on my special, damage over time when dashing, zeus giving lightning on special attacks and damage over time, then hermes boons to make my special attack faster as well, and I unlocked the Artemis call, with bone to improve call generation and start encounters with the first chunk full. Mad how powerful it feels when you get things stacking like that.

No, sadly. Got his life down all the way, only for his health bar to go back to full again. :x

That's as far as I've got too.

When he starts firing lasers and they just blitz through all your health :dread:

To be honest, I don't think I could tell you anything about what he was doing, I was just hammering A and Y like my life depended on it.

Apparently you get two per run, not including any that show up in Charon's shop.

You'll get used to his spear throw reticule timing and will eventually learn to dodge it. And remember that the attack itself can be spotted (pink spear?) so it definitely is dodgeable.

I beat it :toot:

17th run, was using the spear and my special was especially murderous by the end - as well as lots of damage up in general on it it was inflicting 190 doom. I'd also got up to 300 health, I never even used stubborn defiance B)

Of course the game is only just beginning it seems. It's so damn good, I don't think I've ever seen a rougelite so narratively well held together.

:toot: :D Well done. Doubly so on using up a life, as it were. And yeah, it really is a case of "Now the game begins."

I FINALLY found my Hades screenshots location!

I dunno why, but mullering Than good and proper feels *so very good*

It helped that the room was a cramped one, but I also thrashed him 31 to 6 once and that was in the more open areas of Elysium.

Damn. I've only beaten him once and lost twice (one being a rail run where I really wasn't set up for quick/high damage output and only managed like one kill ). The last encounter we actually tied which was neat.

My run after my above victory I almost beat too. Haven't yet taken any heat as I think I'll only do that with weapons I've already cleared a run with (which makes sense, rewards wise). I was using the bow and got to Hade's second stage, but got a little cocky in taking damage and my build was relying on crits firing on a 15% chance, so a bad run of luck at the end saw me done. It's the first time I've absolutely destroyed Asterius and Theseus though and it felt very satisfying.

woop! Well done.

I'm pretty sure I also beat him once and he got a big fat 0! Though I can't find the screenshot of that and so I am wondering if I am remembering incorrectly.

Level 1 heat run clear with the spear! A very similar build too - again with special up doom and lightning ball cast. I went with one level of extreme measures and the two sisters helping out Meg was a very cool modification to that boss fight.

I just paid 2 diamonds for the renovation desk upgrade and some of the new renovations sound really powerful. I think one is gaining money from gem pickups?

Also - does anyone know which "cosmetic" renovations are actually useful to have? Like how the scrying pool tells you your number of runs and total enemies killed.

The strange contraption (?) is useless (you just get to nudge it) and the sun dial doesn't offer much but a chance for Hades to have a pop at you. (I like commissioning stuff just to piss him off and hear his reaction :P)

Theseus and Asterius absolutely mullered me and I didn't know how. And then they did it again. And then I realised I wasn't quite good enough to have the Heat time limit handicap at max  :fp:

Beat this just now with the shield, following on from my first rail clear and before that a heat level 3 spear clear - so a three clear streak. The progression curve on this is so damn satisfying - and the story still going too!

I just unlocked admin and its very cool to see all my records

Got back to Styx with the shield yesterday, but really struggled with the Satyrs and their poison attacks, when on the first time through, I was killing everything so fast I didn't even realise they could poison you. It's crazy how much the selection of boons you come across and how they stack can determine how easy your run is going to be.

Definitely favouring the shield right now, whilst really struggling with the bow and gun, even though initially they were my favourites because of their range. I watched a couple of run throughs by people who are actually good, and got much more comfortable with getting in close and using the dash to dodge, and powering up the dash to do damage as well, and suddenly I'm much happier using the melee weapons.

Which is why I always scope the room out for where the antidote pool things are located in Satyr Tunnels.

Another good boons combo: Athena's deflect + Hermes's multi dash.

The Satyr's are very annoying for their poison, they're second in priority after the medusa heads because lasers are also awful. Probably the main reason I like having armour break boons so I can quickly get to stunlocking them
