I finally finished this today and HOLY strawberry float what an ending. The last like 2 hours of gameplay are absolutely stellar. I really pray that the next half life is in VR as well because that is by far one of the best games I've ever played.

Amazing isn't it 8-)

Unless you don't have vr, in which case why did they bother?

I saw people have made a non VR mod for the game and honestly while it's cool people can experience the game, without a doubt the ultimate way of playing this is in VR. The ending was so atmospheric and I actually cried at the very end after what happened. My god I'm so glad Valve made this game for VR and I really really want a continuation of the ending in VR.

I really hope this is ported to the PSVR 2 as it could be a really amazing launch game.

I really hope so, it's so damn good and needs to be played by more people.

The sense of being in these places is just incredible. It's been a while since I played it now, but when I think back to the locations, they're like real fleshed out places in my mind.

I loved the way the gun worked, reloading it in the middle of a fight was always tense. Snapping the shotgun shut with a flick of the wrist rather than closing it with your off hand like you're supposed to was always satisfying.

The bit where you can see up through about 5 floors of a ruined building and the poison headcrabs are crawling around  I liked getting ammo, grenades etc and throwing them to higher levels for me to use later.

Oh and the gravity gloves, how perfectly did they work?!

Catching a grenade with the gravity gloves and throwing it back at the person who lobbed it at you is probably one of the coolest things I did. Funny thing is though I ended the game with over 600 SMG ammo, because I was always scared I'd need it so basically played the game with just the pistol until the end when I realised wait I've got tons of ammo now.

I also loved killing the shotgun guys in one shot by weaving past their shots and shooting them at point blank with the shotty.

I keep waiting for VR kit to become more affordable before I dive in to play this, but if anything it just seems to keep getting even more expensive!

I played through it with a Quest then Quest 2 wirelessly with my PC. The Quest 2 is super cheap!

I wouldn't call £300 super cheap!

Given the expense of VR in general part of me is thinking that if I'm buying into it then I want to get the "full" experience, so one of the higher end headsets, base stations for tracking, index handset things etc. so it all starts to add up to a hell of a lot.

There needs to be a better "give it a quick try" cheap option to whet the appetite - £300 for something like the Quest is too much because it feels like you might has well have gone all the way to something like the Vive by that point!

I'm now in a position where I could afford an Index but it still feels like a lot when this is the only game I'm really, truly interested in. I really want to experience it though.

Just played Black Mesa so I'll probably play HL2 and its episodes again and then see how I feel.

It is.

I've been considering a replay myself. It's been too long since I said hello to Jeff.

My current main concern is plug sockets. The four way extension behind my PC is full (PC, monitor, Hive, router) and I only have a single empty socket on the other side of the room. I'd need to do some rearranging to accommodate three more plugs and I don't know if I can be arsed. :simper:

I've still only played it the once. Even though I was able to play it maxed out and I bought the index controllers just to play it, I'll probably wait until I upgrade both my system and the headset before playing again. Supersample the hell out of it and no screen door effect.

Remember that they don't need to be left plugged in when you're not using them. I always unplug mine after each session (context).

You're making it harder to resist the temptation.

Just started Half Life 2 and it still blows me away after all these years. It's a masterpiece.

It is so good, and you really can't convey how perfect the series and format are for VR, you've got to play it. Being IN half life, manually loading and reloading your gun, gravity gloves which become second nature, force pulling objects and ammo, then throwing things about. Soooo good.

Just imagining it is making me salivate. Replaying HL2 reminded me just how well Valve nailed the feeling of manipulating objects in a 3D environment. Tech has improved vastly since then but nothing I've played has captured the same physicality in its world as HL2. It's still an absolute joy to play and I don't think anyone has done it better since.

I can only imagine how that would feel in VR with full finger tracking. :o

I really want it but it's my wife's passive aggressive "you can do what you want with your own money" that scares me  I've put £700 into my savings this month so why can't I treat myself... :shifty:
