Put a few more hours into this over the weekend so far, still enjoying it but at the same time I’m just not enjoying it as much as some of the other Halo games, think part of that is the shift to the open world style. Another thing I’m not overly keen on is actual bosses, they’ve never really been a thing in Halo games before and I’ve always kind of liked that aspect. The combat is brilliant though and I’m quite enjoying the story missions, no idea how far I am on that front as I’ve just got out of the conservatory and picked up the last of the suit upgrade options, although the only ones I’ve invested in so far have been the shields and the grapple hook, not sure if I’ll even use the other 3!

When that classic Halo theme kicks in though :datass:

Edit, just checked and I’m just over halfway through the main quest.

So Alex from DF has been banging on about the gun animations bring 30fps, so much so that he won’t play it till that’s fixed. I thought he was over stating things but… just played a bit and it’s a massive difference, feels silky smooth even more then before…

Think I’m nearing the end of this, just started the mission ‘Repository’

Still enjoying it for the most part, but to had to drop it down to easy at one point (yeah I’m crap at FPS games ) when you were on a living platform with loads of Sentinals firing at you almost constantly. Back up to normal now but obviously won’t get the achievement for finishing it on normal.

Now, don't get me wrong, that part can be a nightmare. I remember dying several times and giving up, the next night I booted it up I did that part first time. (all on Heroic). I wouldn't say I'm amazing at any games but to me, Heroic in this was just enough of a difficulty curve, spikes for sure but with the generous checkpoints and fast reloading it was very rarely a ball ache.

Yeah I found that Sentinel ride a bit of a choke point as well so I can understand the frustration!

Playing on normal, thats the only point that I got really frustrated at, I didn’t seem to get a checkpoint partway through either? So was starting from the start, or very near the start of the ride each time I got beat, I tried to run down the corridor after you jump off and just got gunned down, sorry Chief  There was a few other parts where I got killed a few times but quickly used those failures to get around them next time, with the Sentinal ride I just didn't seem to be able to do that with it being in such a small area so it was a quick drop to easy before putting it back up to normal, just as well I’m not an achievement hunter

Just finished it anyway, main story wise I thought it was pretty good, not up there with the original trilogy and Reach, but better than 4 and 5. The combat is top notch though, grappling onto an enemy and clicking the right thumb stick never got old. Graphically it’s obviously very nice but thats almost to be expected from a 1st party release these days, the music was pretty good too, as I mentioned before whenever the classic Halo theme kicks in :datass:

The ending obviously sets up whatever DLC they’re planning, they’ve introduced a great character in Echo-216 as well.

Fernando Esparza

I loved the story, like a lot and I'm a big fan of Echo 216 and The Weapon Surely she's calling herself Cortana right?

Also, yes when the classic theme kicks in (used very sparingly) the game feels incredible.

I would imagine that she will be calling herself Cortana, after asking Chief if it was alright it’d be a bit underwhelming if they make us wait however long for the DLC just to hear shes not calling herself Cortana

The sporadic use of the theme definitely helps those moments when it does kick in, overall I’ve enjoyed Infinite but still not really sold on why it needed to go open world rather than just have a similar mission format to what we’ve had in most other Halo games.

Edit, is the post credit scene a flashback or current timeline? I’m guessing current and Atriox didn’t die?

The Atriox at the post credit scene is current, the Harbinger says in her dying cut scene "tell him it is done" which I think is referencing Atriox. Where was Atriox all this time is a mystery however, also, I won't go too deep down the lore rabbit hole but it seems Offensive Bias (an ancient Forerunner AI used before on Zeta Halo) helps Chief escape by providing that portal to get out.

With 'Halo: The Endless' being trade marked shorty before Infinite's release It's safe to say the DLC will be incoming. AFAIK The Endless are not referenced in any of the lore until this game which is pretty cool.

Additionally, there's a Halo book releasing in a few months that will explain what happened between Halo 5's ending and Halo Infinite....looking forward to that myself.

I think the only problem with the theme kicking in and giving you the chills is that it shows up the fact that most of the rest of the music is just a bit underwhelming. I almost wanted them to spam the theme more often because so much of the other music sequences just weren't up to snuff.

I HARD disagree with this, the problem is, that the original theme is so iconic that other tunes won't get near it but there are several variations on the theme that work really well imo, also I enjoy the Banished themes as well which surprised me.

The piano parts in some of the more poignant cut scenes I thought were incredible (a mix of old and new), I could honestly go on and on about the soundtrack as I think it's up with ODST as the series best. Then they kick in Halo 2's theme at the VERY end....I mean...Damn!

The Tower is an early example of the main theme being used differently.

Thanks for the info re the ending Photek :)

Re the music, I found most of it was good in Infinite but the main theme is just that iconic that you’re almost subconsciously listening out for it to kick in, or any hint of it in other tracks of the games music.

It just didn't do it for me I'm afraid.

There's some excellent ambient stuff when just exploring the ring, but other than that and the few uses of the theme I'd be hard pressed to think of a moment where the music stood out for me got my blood pumping. Whereas I can still remember plenty of key moments and musical cues from the original trilogy that trigger an emotional response from me even now!

I'm the same, I teared up hearing the strawberry floating Halo 2 theme and it's only about 10 seconds at the very end! :fp:

Also when Chief says "We Finish the Fight" I thought was so awesome, yeah biiiiiiig fanboy of Halo here. :fp:

Use the sentinel beam right back at em, it fries em way before they can fry you.

So looking at the mid-season update, there's definitely progress - smooth first-person animations are essential for the quality of the presentation, bearing in mind that they're crucial to the experience. However, there's still so much left to do and we have to wonder how much of this is down to Halo Infinite effectively being two games in one with multiplayer effectively operating as a 'game as a service', perhaps explaining why campaign isn't receiving the same kind of attention. That may change once the co-op mode is released - and it would be great to see the technical issues with the campaign addressed before that crucial upgrade is released.

Season 2’s story—a mix of cinematics, story-themed Events, Battle Pass items and more that embody the Lone Wolves theme.

During Season 2, we will also be shipping playlist updates, balance changes, new modes, and maps, specifically, one Arena map named “Catalyst” and one BTB map named “Breaker.” The new modes include "Last Spartan Standing", a free-for-all elimination mode, as well as another new mode named "Land Grab," plus the return of an updated, all-time favorite mode, "King of the Hill."

All this means that we will not be able to ship Campaign network co-op on May 3rd, at the start of Season 2. But we are still aiming to deliver Campaign network co-op later in Season 2, and we will share a release date for that and for split-screen co-op as soon as we can.

We are also making great progress on Forge. Indeed, we are already flighting Forge to a small group of community creators and working closely with them to ensure that all of you have a terrific experience creating, sharing, browsing, and playing Forge content. In the near term, we will continue to privately flight Forge as we develop it while also planning for public flight(s) later this year. We still have the goal of shipping Forge with Season 3.

Speaking of Season 3, while the majority of the team is tackling Hotlist items, shipping Season 2, and working on Campaign co-op and Forge, there are also many folks already hard at work on Season 3. We’ll be sharing additional details and specifics on all of these development efforts at a later date.

We will have a lot more to share about the Season 2 maps, modes, customization options, and narrative content in April, as our marketing and promotional campaign kicks into high gear.

Image

And speaking of great Seasonal content, our next Season 1 event, “Tactical Ops,” starts next week, so get set for variants on the Tactical Slayer mode along with new, Mark VII core-focused rewards to earn!

Importantly, we’re not just planning to address Hotlist items at the start of Seasons. Similar to Update 1.1.1 that launched a little more than a week ago, we intend to ship fixes, features, and content in more agile ways, during our Seasons.
