Prices have definitely been too high, put me off buying anything at all. Seemed clear that they'd have to drop them soon.

That’s good to hear. There have been single items I’ve wanted but they’ve been part of a 2000 credit bundle, which is far too much.

I think Fortnite has a sweet spot with their shop. Full, highly detailed, complete skins are between £8-12 roughly. Accessories and weapon skins around half that.

Infinite is currently asking about £15 for their weekly bundles aren’t they? Which only really includes an armour piece, a different armour colour, and a weapon skin or two. The price is way too high considering you still end up looking much the same.

I’m still hoping the battle pass gets a slight retune. I think it’s harsh how you are penalised in terms of XP after ~5 matches per day. If they want a cap it should be weekly so that people can binge on certain days without feeling they have to log in each day to complete their ‘chore’.

I don't understand why anyone pays real money for cosmetic items

Aside from jazzing up your avatar a bit, it’s a way to feel like you are supporting the studio for having provided you with a free game. It doesn’t escape the fact the practice is still a bit predatory, but each to their own.

Aside from the few battle passes I’ve bought for ‘free’, I’ve maybe spent £20-30 on cosmetic items in Fortnite in the last two years. Which is not a lot at all considering it’s both free and continually getting new content added. As far as I see it, that’s 6 pints for 2 years of entertainment and counting

I do feel it’s pointless in an FPS, but the multiplayer match intros are effective at introducing the FOMO concept.

I much preferred Halo multiplayer being bundled with single player and everyone looking much the same though.

Same here.
There's zero incentive for me to spend money on cosmetics as my guy looks fine as he is.
The only option I'd maybe pay for is the ability to have my guy running about in just his pants when he has his shields are down.

I can't remember at what 'prestige' level you unlock it, but as soon as rocket-launcher equipped marines appear at your base get yourself on a Gungoose. The marines are ridiculously accurate and the firepower and speed of the Gungoose - combined with the marine - makes dispatching enemy bases fairly trivial. Not game-breaking trivial, but easier and quicker than a Scorpion or Wasp.

They marines are quite fragile, but have seemingly unlimited ammo.

I load up the transport warthog with 5 marines and usually one will have a sniper and another a rocket launcher, fun times!

I tend to stick to solo action the vast majority of the time - it is fun to take Marines out on incursions every now and then though!

I think the main reason I don't bother with them too much is that the added verticality from the grapple means they can rarely follow the Chief for long, and I've found that quite often there's some terrain or other obstacle blocking my way when I want to roll through in a Warthog full of marines so I just stopped bothering!

If a High Value target is in a relatively open area you can drive about picking off most of them. I've done all the FOBS, HVT's, Banished bases. I'm think I'm entering the home straight story wise. Quite a battle ahead of me to do, been thinking about how to approach it while sat here in work, been f**king ages since I thought about a game like that. :fp:

Can you give orders to the soldiers? They tend to just stand around like dumbasses most of the time, and it's be nice to be able to give a GET IN THE DAMN WARTHOG order. I'll take one with a mounted gun with me if there's soldiers around and often they'll sort out a lot of the enemies on the outskirts of the bases. It's only when I then hop over a gate to open it and then move back that it becomes a real issue, as they tend to start moving side to side shouting AMERICA FCK YEAH! and don't get in the car straight away, usually letting it take a lot of damage. That or they stand still, then run behind the thing the second I try to move.

They really help in some encounters so it'd be good to be able to order them around.

You can't give orders to them, to get 5 soldiers with me I have to run about (grapple about) to each one you they get a blue circle over their heads and follow you.

They AI is decent enough tho, they'll usually exchange a weapon they have in hands with a better one if it's laying about. You also upgrade their armour at some stage.

I did t realise you had to get that close for the blue circle to appear, I thought the AI just decided when to follow.

I'd been sat honking the warthog horn

They should make the horn mean they get in, in previous halo's they'd drive the vehicles themselves but I can understand why they can't in Infinite - open world etc.

Y’know, we have often asked ourselves how we can make Spartans even cooler than they already are. We’ve come up with a few different answers to that over the years, one of our most recent being “What if they were samurai from an alternate, non-canonical universe?” Our next Event in Halo Infinite’s free to play multiplayer considers what if Spartans had some kind of holographic neon mohawk? What if a digital visor could burst out from your helmet to visually accent your tactical (and stylish) acuity?

Get ready for a synthwave showdown, Spartans. Go forth into matchmaking in all your heliotrope luminance. The Cyber Showdown Event is live!

Running across two weeks from January 18 to February 1, the Cyber Showdown Event invites you to jump into the new Attrition mode to earn free, limited-time customization rewards.

Attrition is a frantic new Slayer mode where lives are shared across your team. Each team has a limited number of lives—revive your teammates when they fall and work together to deplete the enemy’s lifepool to finish them off. Last team standing wins! It’s classic, competitive 4v4 action with a unique spin on how you operate as a team.

Cyber Showdown also features a unique reward track with themed items, similar to what you’ve come to expect from Fracture: Tenrai.

There are 10 Event Challenges overall, spread evenly through your pool of Weekly Challenges, while the Event is live. For each Event Challenge completed, you will earn the next reward from your Event Reward track and unlock more cyber-themed goodness.

Check out some of the rewards you’ll be getting below!

Image

Those who jump in during the event will also receive the New Heights backdrop for your Spartan ID, and be sure to keep an eye out for other effulgently extravagant Event items in the Store as well.

Well, we’d better not keep you any longer. Jump into Halo Infinite’s free to play multiplayer and start searching Cyber Showdown - Attrition.

See you on the battlefield!

Having played several more matches of that type last night, I still think it's a great addition. However, it's much like the other objective-based game modes - when the team play with the objective in mind it works very well, when people treat it like a normal slayer match it all falls apart. I don't think it works well on the larger maps with vehicles present though. It's still fun, but the match can swing drastically in favour of the team with the vehicles(s) with very few second chances.
