I've heard a lot of criticism about the series, but I watched episode 1 tonight and bloody loved it.

Just noticed this thread started in 2013! Crazy.

I thought the first episode was pretty good, too. Wasn't too sold on the first few minutes ( the yoof immediately deciding to sneak off and do drugs and then all getting pretty gruesomely obliterated had me wondering if they actually knew what the games were like), but it does get a lot better once Chief turns up. Think they got a bit too heavy handed with references to the games in that first fight :slol: Just because it's based on a first person game doesn't mean you have to keep cutting to his suit's HUD. The "take cover! You've got no shield" noise was a great touch, though

My feelings on the extended Halo universe are pretty well documented, so I'm hoping this show will be reasonably easy to follow without an extensive knowledge of Halo's wikia. I guess one of the perks of it being a show is they can't hide away the only character development inside collectibles :slol:

I didn't realise it was going to be a pre-Halo 1 prequel (I hadn't really watched any of the trailers or kept up with any of the news articles), so it'll be interesting to see when/if it does get into sync with the games. Gives them chance to do a little bit more than just retread the same setpieces, so I'm on board. I know Reach was set in 2552 as well, so I'm guessing we might see something of that this season... :dread:

Can just imagine the articles that have been written about Commander Keyes, too :dread: Waiting for them to call for Sgt Johnson to be played by a white guy to make up for it.

According to the Paramount streamer, Halo has set a new record as the service’s most-watched series premiere globally in its first 24 hours of release, topping the previous mark established by Yellowstone prequel 1883 in December.

As usual, no numbers were provided; for reference, the record-breaking 1883 series debut on Paramount+ also drew 4.9 million viewers in a promotional linear airing behind Yellowstone on Paramount Network. We will get a sense of the scope of Halo’s viewership when Nielsen’s streaming rankings for this week come out. A Paramount+ original has yet to crack the Nielsen Top 10.

A mixed start, some scenes looked great, some not so much. Good cast, want to see more of Silver Team. Interested to see how it develops in structure.

It was decent enough, but nothing particularly special.

It felt like a Sci-Fi channel show with a big budget.

If it wasn't Halo I'm not sure I'd be going back.

But it was decent enough, so I will go back.

Story I wise I am assuming that the season is going to end with the fall of Reach and them finding the first Halo.

If so I demand that Master Chief has a pet duck.

This debuted last week on Sky Atlantic in both Italy and Germany, so it could be on the way to ours. Depends if Sky UK wants to boxset all 9 episodes in one go or not.

Is the paramount+ streaming platform not launching here? I thought they were waiting for that to launch with halo?

They haven’t said officially where or when Halo is airing here initially. Paramount+ is launching at some point this summer, bundled with Sky Cinema, but Paramount has also partnered with Sky in other European countries (such as Germany and Italy, which don’t have Paramount+ yet either) and in those countries they’ve just decided to put Halo out on Sky Atlantic instead rather than hold it back.

Yellowstone is another big Paramount+ programme and I think that’s recently started airing over here already somewhere.

Got the 2nd episode to watch tonight but as much as I loved the first episode there was some gooseberry fool that bugged me.

Covie plasma weapons decimate people when viewed from a distance but close up shots its like Star Wars blaster fire :slol: and then there's the whole snap to a pose gooseberry fool that basically went on throughout the whole episode with Chief and the other Spartans, cringe as strawberry float.

Second episode didn't grab me as much as the first. Still interested to see where it all goes, though.

A lot of Rubble seemed quite jarring stylistically from the rest of the Halo universe, though. That stupid tram ride that threw itself off a cliff and became a cable car  Ludicrous.

Also still kinda hope that the claims it's an "alternate canon" is just them trying to defend themselves against the #NotMyKeyes crackpots. Would be a bit daft having a show that doesn't actually match up with the rest of the lore :dread: Will be like DC and their totally separate movie/tv universes...

Episode 3 was... alright. But I still don't think Cortana looks... right :dread:

"Go away! AI Off. Disappear!"

I don't really care much about the Kwan arc at the moment, although I assume she's going to wind up in trouble with the Covenant (again) if they're both heading to Madrigal.

I had no idea that's what a Hunter really looked like, too :slol:

Aah is that what they were?

Now that you mention it it does ring a bell, but I've never paid too much attention to the lore behind most of Halo.

All I can say about episode 3 is that if people weren't happy with him taking his helmet off, they're gonna hate some parts of this episode. :slol:

Yeah, I was sure that in the scene where she's still on the ship she was talking to a Hunter in the armour, but then

when they actually started attacking the rescue ship it was just the big can of worms :slol: Had a bit of a google and it turns out that Hunters are actually made up of a whole bunch of little worm creatures just animating a suit of armour? Why have they never had Chief fight the worm-y beasts without the armour before? That would have made for a bit of variation in the games! (Just as long as they made it a bit more fun than the "shoot the swarm" bits in Gears 5 :shifty: )

I couldn't stop chuckling at the bit just after where Chief's removed his emotion inhibitor thing and is just wandering around staring with wide-eyed wonder at everything. Just like "Oh damn this music is so beautiful  Look at all those stars! HOLY strawberry float THAT'S A FLUFFY DOG. Can I touch it?"

Imagine working that "I know how the game is played" line into the script and thinking it'd be anything other than immensely cringe

Chief telling the other emotional spartan that she's not cleared for combat despite him repeatedly and consistently letting his emotions get the better of him. What a lad.

Good to see some different covenant baddies this episode, though! And the rest of that final section :datass: :toot:
