DAT opening :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass:

Has the evidence of Will's brain scan from last season just been dropped? No investigation into that at all? When it's the most damning evidence of Hannibal?

When's this back on in the UK btw?

Thoroughly enjoyed that :datass: "I never regret eating anything" :slol:

Bit of a slow burner, but I like that they gave us that holy strawberry float opening and then calmed it down a little bit to place all the characters where they need to be.

On the brain scan evidence, who knows? I got the impression they could have figured the brain scan done by Hannibal and that doctor who ended up getting strawberry floated up by Hannibal was clean, and his encephalitis came on very quickly just after that?

I'd imagine that'll be part of the realisation for the FBI team - when exactly did Will get ill if that was the reason for the murders? At which point they'll hopefully start to realise the truth. How that truth will come out will be interesting though - I'm not sure Hannibal is one to make a glaring DNA mistake.

I think most of the kaiseki was what he said it was, maybe not the sashimi. :dread: That was definitely sea urchin though.

Great first ep.

Yeah that was distracting.

I thought the opening was a little over the top, they were fighting like they were in some martial arts movie  - It was entertaining though but I found it slightly unbelievable.

The whole feeling of the show is that it is just a little beyond the realm of the real though, so I thought that was okay. The gore is always stylised, the Twin Peaks-y shots etc tend to ground it in a kind of non-reality, so Hannibal throwing down with martial arts was okay I think.

It was a seriously entertaining throwdown though :slol:

That final scene was quite unsettling.

Great episode. Good to have it back.

Had to rush to pause the end before the "this season ahead" trailer showed at the end of the episode. No doubt as spoilerific as the Youtube trailer a while back. :dread:

32% down on last seasons premiere but 38% up on last seasons finale. Nothing to worry about as it's paid for from foreign money, is on the 2nd worst night and is .1 up on NBCs highest show on Thursday.

NBC’s Hannibal returned for its second season Friday night in a tougher time slot and softer ratings.

The season two premiere delivered 3.4 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49, ranking third at 10 p.m. That’s down 32 percent from its Thursday series premiere last season. A dip was expected with this schedule shift, but it’s a bummer that Hannibal also sliced 21 percent of its Grimm lead-in. The one upside: Hannibal was slightly higher than the average performance of Dracula in this slot this season.

Anyway a fantastic return and as usual it looked amazing.

Disregarding the fact that Hopkins was second to the role. Brian Cox is sublime in Manhunter (the original Red Dragon).

As for Mads - his is a wonderful take on the role. Primarily because it is so iconic (and Hopkins was so) it is all the more revelatory to see how well he plays him.

I really struggle to get on board with people who express that view. It's very close minded.

By contrast, I think Mads is a better Hannibal than Hopkins.

Mads is so good at doing evil roles, thought he was superb in Casino Royale too.

It isn't close minded to have the opinion that Anthony Hopkins was so brilliant as Hannibal Lecter it's hard to see any other actor in the role doing it as good or better. It's completely possible I just don't think Mads Mikkelsen does anything particularly memorable with the role. I'm sure many people were the same in regards to the Joker after Nicholson had portrayed him so well in Batman but Heath Ledger came along and re-invented Joker in his own unique way and was brilliant. The Hannibal series for me is too polished it needs to be grittier. There's also too many whacky serial killers on the loose which makes supposedly unique characters like Hannibal seem quite normal in comparison. Within four or five episodes of season one you've had a man who kills young women who remind him of his daughter, a guy who kidnaps people puts them into a coma and turns them into a fungal garden and another guy who kills people makes wings out of the skin on their backs and poses them as angels to watch over him as he sleeps.I just feel it could of been so much more with the characters and material they've got to hand instead it feels the tone and structure of the show is more CSI and less the books by Thomas Harris.
