Will do man.

Yeah there's a lot. I was specifically looking at their top 100 WADs to start with.

I've just started making my way through the Doomworld top 100 myself, some really interesting stuff so far. It's been years since I've properly dipped my toes into Doom WADs but I think I'm about to get hooked all over again!

I've ripped the old shareware CD I bought in the 90's that has a load of old WADs and mods on it. There's a lot of trash, but some fun stuff as well.

EDIT: RAR'd it and uploaded it. It's only around 23Mb if anyone wants a look. It's literally just a rip of an old CD, complete with it's DOS interface.

Nice one, I'll check that out!

I can't even recall how many old discs and CD's I must have picked up way back when with bundles of WADs and TCs on them. I doubt I still have any of them anymore which is a real shame.

I remember going on holiday to the USA back in '95 and picking up a bunch of Doom books with attached CDs. Some were collections of levels, others were more focused on modding - the CD had tools for level editing, sprite editing etc. and the books were filled with tutorials on how to do it all. Good times.

He hasn't been explicit, but I would be very surprised if it doesn't work with all the legitimate releases of Doom available. I certainly expect it to be compatible with GZdoom and the other sourceports which only require the original WAD files. So I wouldn't worry about it.

That's good to hear
Guess I might go and try to finish episode 4 again lmao

Sigil has been delayed till April due to production issues with the boxed copies.

Kind of annoying as I was looking forward to it this month. Still gonna be good.

I'm quite happy that it's had a little delay, I played way too many WADs over the last couple of months that I feel like a little break from Doom before Sigil arrives will be a good thing for me!

Yeah I'm not in any rush for it. Doom is eternal.

The blog post where he announced the delay.

I just wanted to update you on SIGIL. There were a few snags in production trying to make sure everything is top-notch for fans! I just wanted to let everyone who purchased either the Big Box or the Beast Box know that it is now looking like it will ship sometime in April. Thank you for your patience, and I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. This also means the free version of SIGIL will have to wait until after the boxes are in the hands of customers.

Also some awesome Sigil artwork from that post:

I got mine the other day because I bought the boxed edition version from Limited Run and so far it's decent. Not played too much but I'm enjoying it.

I'm not hard into the Doom wad community so we'll see how it goes down with them.

hello!
i have not played it yet.
speed-runner extraordinaire Zero-Master has already done a speedrun under 12 minutes

as far as i can tell the reception is generally good but theres some backlash from the 'casual' community that its not brutal enough and is old-hat because its like Ultimate Doom's 5th episode (which is - newsflash - what Romero wanted).

Streamed about an hour of this earlier and really enjoyed it! I think I've only done 4 levels so far but they were all well designed as you would expect from Romero. Looking forward to giving a further bash later and cranking the difficulty up as well (went with Hurt Me Plenty as the default for my first go)

I was only able to join for a short while but it looked great, Jen; classic Doom action with a pumping soundtrack!

Yeah thanks for popping in Jawa. Was good to have someone along for the ride, however briefly!

The soundtrack is really growing on me, it has done a really good job of capturing the feel of the original Doom music in my opinion.

Everybody with even a passing interest in speed runs should watch this video, charting 25 years of progress of one of the hardest maps in Doom 2

Finished this during my stream tonight (thanks to those who joined me! :toot: )

It's really bloody good! A nice step up in terms of challenge from the original doom episodes, although I would say that Ep 4 Thy Flesh Consumed is still a bigger challenge than this. There are some really nice looking areas in it, Romero has clearly taken advantage of some of the newer limits that are available now (I'm fairly certain this won't run on the original engine!) and he loves a good glowing crack in the floor.

Definitely worth a go for any Doom fans out there.
