I agree, I'd rather have 10 x 2 hour episodes released on a regular schedule than 4 x 5 hour ones that appear only every once in a while.

I'm currently listening to The History of Rome and although it's a long finished series I can just binge, each ep is 15-20 minutes long which is perfect length when you're dealing with complex historical structures and events.

I love Carlin, he's an unmatched orator, but I wish he'd go down that route.

The latest addendum is great. It’s the story of Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great.

Maybe it's just been a while since I listened to a series,but I'm loving this Supernova in the East run. Never had a huge interest in the period but finding out how things led to Pearl Harbour is fascinating.

The new addendum makes you feel much better about coronavirus.

I really enjoyed his WW1 series when I first listened to it but I've struggled to get into anything since then. At some point, his "wow, I'm completely amazed by history" way of talking began to grate on me. I know his enthusiasm is probably one of the things people like about him but I don't want to hear his passionate opinion on everything and be told how I'm supposed to feel about it all, I just want the facts. I guess when he says things like "woah.... just imagine how scared you'd feel in that situation... crazy, isn't it?" it just rubs me the wrong way.

I think what I like about Hardcore History is that he does give his own opinions and talks about the feelings of the people and will say what his emotional response is to reading the history. There are plenty of online articles, podcasts and books that will give just the facts, but the emotional side of things make HH fascinating.

I don’t think that makes you wrong though, it’s just a matter of opinion. I think Carlin does need to retire the phrase “and remember, I am not a historian, I am just a fan” though, yes Dan we get it, you are not a historian.

He can't retire that phrase as every release he does will have a good portion of new listeners that would otherwise think he was a historian, no?

I love Dan's style regardless, the guy has a love of history and it's infectious

I really want HBO to make series on Alexander now and his family now. It's better than gamer of thrones and already fully written.

Carlin has released a new episode of his “Common Sense” podcast.

It’s not about history but is a good listen.

First time he's done one of those in a while, I know he was getting a bit sick of the political landscape in the US so stepped back from talking about it.
