Has a game series ever gone through a golden age as good as the one Resident Evil is in?

Great analogy

An argument could also be made that's it's actually harder to create a new interpretation of a beloved previous entry in a series - the weight of expectation, pressure to not strawberry float it up and tarnish the original, fear over how much to update/change, what new things to bring in without losing what makes something special etc.

Beat me to it!

I was more excited by the remake of 2 than I was of 8 (though I will pick it up in due course). Expanding upon an original idea enough to make it worth revisiting without trashing everything that made the original great must come with its own challenges. These are not simple resolution boosts, they're a whole new take on classics.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Not a game series but I have to mention Namco's mid to late 90's PS1 output in this thread, so many superb games - Rage Racer, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, Soul Blade, Time Crisis, Point Blank, they were on fire.

Forza Horizon 3,4, and 5 are pretty universally acclaimed.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I'd go with the same impression. RE2 is much closer to a "new game" than countless identikit sequels from comparable "numbered" franchises.

If you play the original game, such as I have on Dreamcast (and PS), it's barely recognisable as the "same" game.

I think it's also fair to assume that such a time has passed (well over 20 years) that the majority of people who played RE2 Remake hadn't played RE2.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Guess not that biased after all. :P

Forza is an interesting one. What’s the time frame for those releases. All I ever hear about the series is how good it is but I’ve never played them. I feel like they’re a bit close to yearly sports games in being just iterative to qualify unless the quality is sustained over a high number of releases over a decade or so. But maybe I’m diminishing the differences between them.

Also, I haven't played RE3 Remake but the second is fantastic. I think it's a bit dismissive to say it's easy to remake an older game, it's not like it's a simple HD remaster of a PS3 game.

RE7 VR is really one of the only titles I’ve played that I’ve thought.. now that’s VR

I recall watching Cora's Resident Evil 24-hour ( :o ) charity stream a year or two back and it was my first experience of seeing lots of action from the Resi games. I'm too creeped out to play them myself but I enjoy seeing the atmospheric environments!

I learnt that I must never play RE VII. Especially in VR. Strawbin' hell.
