Nintendo will market the wii fit in such a way that they will say we can lose those pounds we put on eating the christmas dinner.

Very good idea that - don't advertise it before christmas - advertise it afterwards !

Sorry for the quick derail but I was planning to sell my Wii this weekend (CEX would give £108.00), do you think it would be a better idea to wait until nearer Christmas? I just don't play it any more (my last Wii purchase was Lost Winds). Completely underwhelmed with the console.

Since another Xmas shortage seems inevitable I would wait until November where you will probably exceed the RRP again on Ebay or Amazon marketplace.

Isn't MadWorld out this 'holiday' too? The controversy enough should help that one fly off the shelves.

No, it's next year.

I'm surprised more people aren't interested in Shaun White, to be honest. Admittedly, it was a very early version I played, but it's great on the balance board.

I'm interested in Shaun White, but maybe when all the fuss has died down and I can get a WiiFit with relative ease.

The lineup is certainly disappointing, but I can't help but feel we gamers tend to be a bit melodramatic about it all... But I suppose the doom of traditional gaming is nigh, Nintendo have stabbed us all firmly in the back and they have certainly cuckolded us by seducing that lecherous beast, the Cash Cow.

Of course they have not strawberry floated up. They will sell out. Wii Fit will lead the charge for them - it still sells for extortionate amounts on ebay. That one game will be enough. THey do not need a "Xmas line up". I suspect Carnival Games 2 will also shift a ton.

Then next year they will have Wii Sports 2 and probably some other more casual tie-in game as yet un-announced. As far as this gen goes, Wii is so far ahead, Sony and MS can only fight over 2nd place.

It is no use saying from the perspective of a "core" gamer that more casual gamers will still buy it so they have not messed up: saying that is like saying that whilst no decent rock and roll or Indie records are coming out for the rest of the year, at least we have the new westlife and take-that records to look forward to! It is scant comfort to those looking for the Ninty titles they really want who see little on the horizon. Yes, casual gamers deserve to play the games they want, but so too do those more traditional gamers. In that regard, Nintendo has gotten the balance completely wrong for this year.

Nintendo really have no excuse other than to acknowledge that the headlong rush for the casual market has meant that core gamers are left with next to nothing in terms of major games for the rest of the year. They have (sort of) acknowledged as much after the E3 debacle, however, an assurance that the Zelda and Mario teams "are busy" is not good enough to be honest.

*waits for an inane reply along the lines of "how have they messed up, when it'll still sell out".

The new Oasis album is out in October so Nintendo aren't completely abandoning us.

I'm sure that plenty of us think it looks good and I would be first in line to buy it. But I'm not going to shell out £60 for Wii Fit so I can play it.

Last year we had Mario Galaxy which kept a permenent smile on my face for months, this Christmas I see nothing of the same quality coming out that gets me excited.

Since I brought my 360 my wii has only been used for Mario Kart, Nintendo used to make these classic games constantly but they are becoming more and more infrequent.

Animal Crossing should do well (though I can't see it having quite the impact of the DS version), though I'm not convinced Wii Music will do anything like the numbers of Wii Fit and the like.

Apparently we're due an announcement about release dates for those two games soon - if either comes after Christmas (not inconceivable given the potential localisation issues with Crosso) then there could well be problems.

If we don't get Crossing at Christmas I will be severely pissed off.
I can't remember a time when Nintendo offered so little in the last few months of the year as they are in 08, bit no matter the Wii will still outsell the 360 and PS3.

Says a lot really.

Being the "must own" is more important than having a raft of great games when it comes to selling hardware.

I love the Wii but it's bonkers that it can dominate based on this years offerings.

I still think up to this point the Wii has had the best catalogue of games this year. That's obviously all going to change within the next few months.

If this is indeed the case and Nintendo yet again blame an inability to keep up with demand I will shun them forever (maybe). I get more and more pissed off with people excusing Nintendo not being able to make enough units to meet demand. I may sound like a broken record about this but its fudging doing my head in as Nintendo have had more than ample time to sort the situation but they wont because helps them to whip up false sales fenzies and I wish they would just strawberry float off!!!!

Screw Nintendo they can go to hell!

Nintendo have their market all sewn up: All their fans that have been with them since the 80s have all grown up and probably have families of their own. For a Dad (like me) whose time is limited Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Metroid, Okami, NMH and the forthcoming dead rising will keep them occupied until the new year (At least it will me. One game at a time) whilst their missus (like mine) will be more than occupied with Wii Fit and Mario Kart. The VC will tide over any gaps (Mario RPG? If you finish this in a week and are over 21 you need to spend a bit less time gaming)

The fanbase who are either students and thus have more time than me and more disposable income will be disaappointed, but then Microsoft has more than enough to keep you occupied. In other words: Buy a 360.

Yup, Nintendo have really ballsed up by making a console and games that are enjoyed by more than just the self-proclaimed hardcore. The bastards.

Neph wrote:Seeing as they have 1 massive franchise coming from them and a few smaller/ new Ips they are letting 3rd parties in on the act Rock band 2 and GH will be out this year aand they will seell massively.

You could argue that the seeming lack of 1st party titles actually gives 3rd parties a chance to get their foot in this Christmas. That can only be good for the Wii, unless everyone wants yet another Nintendo console that tapers off because Nintendo's games dominate the market for the system. I wouldn't be surprised if there is actual an internal decision at Nintendo - which would be reflected by what Reggie has said - to deliberately spread out 1st party games so that Nintendo have a more consistent offering throughout the coming years (Mario and Zelda teams working away, and Pikmin's in the pipeline, probably Kid Icarus, etc.), don't waste money on developing games that will only compete with each other for sales, and they avoid throttling third parties.

The existing line up and of course stuff like Wii Fit are enough to keep the system going. Financially there's no need for Nintendo to sell anything else. They're already living off massive profits that will only mean better games for us in the long run.

If 3rd party output is decent over the next few quarters then I won't be complaining, otherwise I think it's fair to say Nintendo are being too stringent on the release schedule.

Oh and Crisp.. to be fair I can't think of any company that hasn't done that, Sony have done it, MS have done it.. It's more fair for Nintendo to get away with it considering they do have to manufacture an obscene number of units compared to the others. Don't forget that they also have to make DS as well; two massively popular consoles worldwide.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Being a Nintendo fan, I think that the Wii has been a terrible irony. In the GC days the idea of Nintendo once again reclaming it's rightful position as the number one gaming company would have seemed like a dream come true. Yet, as this becomes a reality, I am left standing forlorn as my once worshipped developer pushes me aside in favour of more profitable markets. Fate is cruel indeed, answering my deepest wishes and then making me regret them. :(

See, I'm not convinced that's the case. Back in the day, Nintendo didn't make more games, it's just that its output seems less generous in the current climate with more games coming out than ever before. The thing is that Nintendo hasn't expanded its yearly output, and with third parties seemingly making less of an effort on Wii than on 360 and PS3, the gaps in the release schedule are more noticeable than before.

And Herbi's made a very good point. While I'm not sure I'd totally agree that Wii's line-up so far this year has been superior to its rivals, it's at least been comparable. Mario Kart Wii and Smash Bros. Brawl are both excellent Nintendo titles (the former admittedly only if you're online), and it's only in the third and fourth quarter that things are looking comparatively barren - certainly next to the 360's release list.
