Actually, just remembered I got him by a van running across the road in Camden in 2008. Fortunately, I saw what was coming and jumped up onto the bonnet and rolled off, rather than going under the car. Ambulance was called, but the driver was more shaken up than me, some old hippy "what you doing to my man, my heart cant take that", i felt awful

When I was 16 I was hit by a car I was crossing the road it was speeding seemingly coming out of nowhere, I saw it and jumped back, instead of hitting me dead on it clipped me which threw me in the air and I came down hard on my right leg, the bone shot through the skin , but I didn't realise this, knowing I was in the road I got up on my good leg and hopped on to the pavement. I was taken to hospital they snapped the ankle back added a metal plate either side and bolts and that's that really, there was a lot of talk that I could loose my lower leg before they sorted it but thankfully I didn't.

I have a lot more but I will only tell one more for now

I am an epileptic and I have been since I about 6, so lots of near death there, lots of waking up in hospitals. I remember one for being particularly weird though.. I'd decided to sleep in my brothers room he was much older away in uni and had this cool room in the attic and it was to hot in my room to sleep... I woke up with a feeling of dread and a certainty I was going to fit (I almost always get no warning or feeling before) I stood up hot out of bed and started screaming I'm going to fit im going to fit then in the corner of the room I saw a spinning silver sphere and it shot towards my head and I had an all mighty fit and woke up later on the floor feeling like I was going to die... No other time have I seen a hallucination when fitting or about to fit but I do know people who claim they've been abducted by aliens see spheres like this etc , this just proves to me that the people who claim this have had some kind of brain related hick up as I'm sure that's all it was in my case. It was bloody scary though.

Another near death experience was when I was around 14, was at school waiting outside the science classrooms which were in a separate building that was always locked until the teacher arrived to let everyone in (unsupervised teenagers in a science lab is never good).

Anyway this particular day I was the first to arrive and was sat in my wheelchair at the doorway and randomly looked up at a big metal panel under the second story window and had a uneasy feeling that it would fall on me and the several other people now queuing behind me. It was raining so I tried opening the door and was surprised to discover it was unlocked so we all went in and sat down.

Seconds later there was a loud bang outside as the previously mentioned panel (around the size of a whiteboard) fell on the ramp where I'd been sat.

I had meningitis as a kid which laid me out for a while but thankfully didn't result in anything more serious than me feeling really rough and getting properly delirious at several points!

Other than that I've been knocked off my bike quite badly by cars on a number of occasions over the years, several times requiring getting the blue light treatment to the hospital but never resulting in any lasting injury fortunately.

About the closest I've been to any such incident was at a family friend's bonfire party (the dodgy fireworks in back garden style), I had been sat on one chair but had moved for some reason (probably premonition) and shortly after a firework flew straight into where my head would've been into the wall behind.

Aside from my appendix being close to bursting I was too sensible a child.

I once had my life flash in front of me (it lasted a millisecond) when I got run over the first time, I was wearing my Parker jacket with the hood zipped up. I wasn't a smart kid, I haven't got any smarter either. I then proceeded to walk home and didn't tell anyone. My mum found out when the school called her to say it happened and they had no idea where I was.

Had similar happen to me twice, once at my uncles house when I was about 7 or 8, a catherine wheel detached itself from a post and flew towards my face but suddenly veered away at the last millisecond and missed.

Second time I'd probably be 12 ish, at a local pubs bonfire where some drunken morons decided to throw a box of rockets into the bonfire and they all flew out in random directions, one went past my head so closely it clipped me on my cheek. At that point we decided to leave.

When my grandmother used to take me to church, they were having this outside bonfire thing for bonfire night and had a tonne of fireworks. One went off course and almost hit me, went flying past and almost hit a car before exploding. Luckily no one was hurt and I'm not sure if they had another bonfire after that.

We seem to have more people than I would have expected getting run over. Either it's more common than I realised or we're just a very unlucky bunch!

I almost drowned in a wave pool as a child.
I wasn't even in a particularly deep area, but it was just way overcrowded and I was basically pushed down under the water by the mass of people and couldn't get to the surface until my dad fortunately found me and was able to yank me above the surface.

I've had a very similar experience. We'd had several drinks at a house party and somebody decided to set some off. The thing fell over and flew straight at us, exploding within touching distance. It felt more like being sprayed with water than what you would expect from an explosive firework hitting you, so it doesn't qualify as a near death experience for me. I imagine that it wasn't a particularly big firework and of course in slightly different circumstances it could have lead to serious injury.

The closest I can think of a near death experience was funnily enough, alcohol induced. To give it some context, I used to drink a 750 ml bottle of rum before heading out on a night out and 'not feel drunk', but that night I was particularly peeved with work and drank beyond the ridiculous tolerance level I had built up. I remember walking to a pub and seeing some people we knew along the way, only I had drunk so much that I had pinhole vision, which is something I have never experienced prior or since. The next morning I remember waking up in a bed that wasn't mine, utterly convinced that I was dead. It turned out that my friend had taken me back to his and left me in his bed & I'd vomited in the night. I can't remember it so I'll never be sure, but I'm convinced that I choked on my vomit that night and put myself in genuine danger. Thankfully I don't drink much these days, so this is unlikely to happen again!

My other experience was stopping at some traffic lights at a T junction in quite heavy fog. I sprayed my windscreen and because it was so cold it started to freeze over. I quickly set the windscreen wipers on at top speed to clear the water and after a few seconds it cleared and I realised the lights had changed. As I started to pull forward a fire engine flew past - lights on but no siren. All the training in the world wouldn't have allowed them time to stop in time had I pulled out two seconds earlier.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.
