Obviously we didn't, and 12 hours later we made it to the village.

The way back took an additional 10 hours as part of the road had collapsed. Later on, I met someone who'd done the same route and saw a bus go over. 24 people died.

I wasn't the smartest traveller, but I did save £80.

I've seen that road enough times on tv to know to stay the strawberry float away from it

I went from La Park to the Uyuni by bus and that was bad enough for me

Yeah there have been some pretty scary tales in here and I'm glad you all got through your baby crises but amateur hour is over and it's time for some true nightmare fuel.

The other day there was an incident that closed part of the M4 in South Wales and so during my commute I had to go through...



Now I know what you might be thinking, "What, just driving through a city? Can't be that bad!" Well clearly if that is the case then you are not familiar with the city of Newport.

I too was once innocent like this, unaware of the horrors that lurked so treacherously on the Welsh south coast. On a clear day you can even spy this hell hole from the right vantage point in fair old Exeter. I'd heard mention of this place before, but only as a myth; a dark fable; a horror tale, told across the flickering embers of a midnight fire, wherever hardened space dogs gather to drink fermented vegetable products and compete in tales of blood-chilling terror.

They say that just travelling within the borders of the county is enough to turn a man infertile and that children run screaming at the sound of their official city anthem ("You're Mother's Got A Penis" by Goldie Lookin' Chain). Even driving through the town from the safety of a fast moving car is not enough to protect you from its demonic effects and you can feel all hope and joy being forcefully drained from inside your soul the longer you remain inside that forsaken place. The city acts almost as one giant Dementor from the Harry Potter franchise, absorbing all light from within until you too feel like the offspring of a truly foul creator.



Gather close and hearken my warning fellow forumites! Whatever fates may befall you, whatever dark powers might twist your will and circumstances to make you think that leaving the M4 between J24 and J28 is a fruitful cause, stay strong! Take whatever precautions you can to protect yourself from this curse, for if I can achieve but one thing with what little life remains to me then let it be that I ensured no one should ever suffer the horrors of a journey though Newport again!

It's good for a mid afternoon sunny day pub crawl as there's lots of nice little pubs, and the tiny rebel in the high street.

I love the idea of you diverting there, as there's a couple of routes to skip those tunnels, one of which takes you pretty close to my house. Stop by next time, we'll go bowling.

One of my mates crashed into one of the reens in the Gwent Levels just outside Newport. There were four of us in the car, bored teenagers, not exactly joy-riding (it was a Fiat Punto) but enjoying the freedom of the open road and having an explore. It was drizzling, he took a corner too quickly and in we went. Luckily there was a hedge that stopped us from actually going in the water, but it was pretty close and we all had to climb vertically out of the passenger side of the car. I was in the back behind the driver, my friend on the passenger side clambered out and as I was climbing up, the door closed on my head (I have never let him forget this ). We didn't die though, which was nice - those reens can be killer.

Newport, so gooseberry fool it actually tries to kill anyone who goes there.

Right, post covid grcade meet at my house and we're going out in Newport.

Got run off the road into ditch by a lorry once. strawberry floater didn't even stop. I'm thankful my reflexes were quick enough to allow me to make the decision to drop my car off the road and potentially roll rather than hesitate and take a full on collision of over ten tonnes of fast moving steel. Literally a second from death or life changing injury. Really hope I'm never in that predicament again.

And which part of Newport did this happen in Meep?
