Doesn't sound like Burn in.

I’m at a loss. The bods I’ve been emailing say it is but I’m not convinced at all. A burn wouldn’t be a crooked blue-green swoosh.

Who told you that? LG themselves have told me it isn’t.

It's been over their advertising for the past couple of years. Currently it's:

Premium picture - Premium cover
LG OLED TVs are engineered to exacting standards that ensure the highest level of performance and build quality. In fact, we're so confident in our product, that we're providing a 5 year warranty that covers all panel faults on premium LG OLED TVs. The warranty is available for customers who purchase any 2021 SIGNATURE OLED 8K or 2021 OLED G1 TVs.

*In the 1st year of the warranty, panel, parts and labour costs are covered. In the 2nd-5th year of the warranty, only panel is covered, labour will be charged.
**The warranty covers 88Z1, 77Z1, 77G1, 65G1, and 55G1.
***The warranty is only available in the UK.

How to claim

If you have any issues with the Product or wish to make a claim under this guarantee, please contact our Service Division, who will also be pleased to help you. Details are shown below.

So it’s only on the Signature and G1 models?

Also, doesn’t the wording of that leave room for them to argue that burn-in isn’t a panel fault?

Some websites asked LG UK about that earlier this year due to the ambiguity and LG said it was covered for consumer use but not professional (those using it as a PC monitor, basically).

But yeah, if you’ve purchased a cheaper LG OLED this year you’re stuffed. Bit like how manufacturers refuse to fix dead pixels.

I think there’s a chance UK consumer law could cover you for screen burn as you’d expect something so expensive to be free of defects for 6 years. You’ve got to be in a fighting mood with that avenue.

I'm very much out of the loop on TV knowledge compared to how I used to be. Not even sure which websites are now most trusted for reviews.

Particularly with "what's the different HDR modes from manufacturers and what ones do I need for optimum 4k HDR and Netflix HDR"?

Another thing with my current 4k TV is it only does 4k over HDMI1 instead of all 3 HDMI sockets which is infuriating.

I think it's pretty much the LG C1 I'm looking at but possibly the Panasonic Z1000. Would that be general consensus for top choices in the £1,000 to £1,500 range?

Re the various HDR standards: https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/televis ... RJb9O3rPPx Netflix uses HDR10 and Dolby Vision; Prime supports all the main ones; Disney and Apple also support Dolby Vision. I find them all more than acceptable, tbh. Though, Dolby Vision does have a undeniable extra lustre to it. Some of the 2021 sets have sensors on them which measure the ambient light in the room and then adjusts the HDR accordingly. (Fancy.) Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ offer this feature. Make sure your set has HDR10/10+ and Dolby Vision and you'll be sorted. (Main difference between 10+ + Dolby Vision and standard HDR: 10+ and DV are dynamic – they're able to work on a per scene basis.)

Super helpful! Thank you!

Seems like HDR is still a bit of a mess like the last time I looked into it. Samsung doesn't have Dolby Vision but does have HDR10+ whilst the LG OLEDs are the opposite. And Panasonic OLEDs and Sony TVs seem to have both but their screens are LG panels but cost more without necessarily being better TVs.

HDR10+ seems like the format which won't survive.

Definitely looking like the LG C1 55" screen is the TV I'll be getting. Looked at the next model up, the G1 but the benefits seem marginal in comparison to the price increase + the stupidly don't include the stand.

Does LG expect me to go for the Ad7 set up of mounted way too high up above the fire place?! :dread:

Only slightly annoying thing with the C1 is that it sits quite low in the stand and I'll be wanting a soundbar (another bloody minefield!) to sit in front of it without obscuring the image.

Sony and Samsung both seem to have soundbars with Dolby Atmos at the same price. Surprisingly LG's cheapest soundbar with Dolby Atmos is quite a bit more expensive.

These 2 posts are great!

Got the 55" LG C1 arriving on Wednesday.

Used the 20% off if you sign up to a Very account to get it for £955.

Well that's very interesting! That's the exact same TV I'm looking at but at a much lower price than John Lewis etc are selling it at.

Yes, it was a slighty frivolous buy as Ive only had my current TV for just over 4 years but the C1 seems to clearly be head and shoulders the best TV around at the moment and, as I've got a Series X, being able to upgrade and have 4k at 120fps, Dolby Vision etc for that price was too good to turn down.

Talked the wife into contributing and selling my current set also means its not going to cost me too much.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 65" LG G1 on Cyber Monday deal at £2,199. However I've seen that the plug is permanently fixed to the TV!?

We already have a wall mounted TV with a periscope type plastic tube already set into the wall and neatly decorated around. This is great for cables but unfortunately isn't quite big enough to accommodate a plug with prongs.

This means I'm going to have to have a single black wire visible for about a foot below the TV to the plug until such time as we redecorate the lounge (probably 3 years or so away as only done in 2019).

Wonder why LG did this with their plugs? It's the same on C1 and CX too I've read.

I had to snip the plug off on mine and reattach another so I could feed the cable inside the wall. Doesn’t void the warranty or anything but certainly didn’t feel good cutting the plug off my brand new TV at the time.

Yeah, my wife suggested doing the same and I had/have the same reluctance.

Anyway, I'll soon get to test my resolve on whether to do that, or leave the wire showing as I've just ordered the 65" G1 from Currys via Quidco. Looks like a short wait of 10 to 21 days but I'm not in any rush - the existing TV is going into an extension we've had built which is currently awaiting it's windows and doors to be fitted and electrics to be connected to the consumer unit anyway.

I've got the plug socket on my wall behind the TV (LG BX) so the cable isn't visible, unfortunately the hdmi cable from the TV to the AV receiver is still visible but seeing as I misjudged the size of both the TV units shelves and the AV receiver you can't really notice because the height of the AV receiver means I've had to put it on top of the TV unit (next to the centre speaker). So yes, always measure your AV equipment before buying a TV unit.

Bought the LG C1 55" OLED. :toot:

Any soundbar recommendations around £400? Dolby Atmos would be essential. Ideally not too tall either as the LG sits quite low in the stand (not going for the Ad7 special of wall mounted way above the fire place).

If you get an atmos sound bar, make sure you also get some rear speakers to complete the setup. I got what was billed as the best one at the time, and it was only when I bought some rear speakers, apropos achieving surround sound, that the thing really came alive.

Can you get a setup where you can adjust the volume of each speaker? I’d love to go back to surround sound but the only place the rear speakers would go are right next to the couch.

That's now ours is set up. The rears are right by our heads to each side, but we've balanced it to work properly with levels and delays.

Richer Sounds in the end.

JL got rid of the £100 off so it was back up to £1299, with a new discount offer instead which was to get £200 off a particularly expensive LG soundbar that I wasn't interested in.

RS however had both the £100 off code showing + £20 off code (intended to allow free delivery next day or nominated day delivery which is £19.95 but you can also choose 3-5 working days free delivery instead) + RS do 6 years instead of 5 years. Got it arriving on Friday. :D

Amazon had it at £1179 but it wouldn't arrive till the middle of next week and I'd rather avoid them if I can help it.

I've had mine for a week now.

Very impressed. For years TVs have gone on about true black, the improvement here is massive.

I love just watching the white saving circle swirl on the black background on Forza Horizon.

How did you do that? What gear are you using?
