Just bought the 4K LOTR trilogy for £67.49 after my brother mentioned you can get 10% offf by using the code WELCOME on your first order at the WB online store.

https://shop.warnerbros.co.uk/the-lord-of-the-rings-trilogy-theatrical-and-extended-edition-4k-ultra-hd-2002

Of course after I ordered it he tells me he was going to buy it me for Chrismas :fp:

Also have 4K versions of Tenet and 2001 to watch over Crimbo.

Amazon have delayed my 4k copy of LOTR to "uhh some time in december" same thing happened with Akira in 4k also. Are discs like really in demand atm or are Amazon just over selling?

PS5 Dolby Atmos heads-up: if you've changed your audio output to Bitstream (either Dolby or DTS) you need to change it *again* when you using the PS5 to watch films. If you don't, then you'll still be using the other setting, linear PCM or whatever it is. Press the options button on PS5 to bring up the menu while watching a film, select the 3 dots option and you can make the change from there.

If anyone is interested, the Lord of the Rings trilogy theatrical and extended editions are £20/£25 on iTunes. If you have an Apple TV you can stream or newer TVs are coming with the Apple TV app.

Before the launch of the PS5 we got the Amazon Fire 4K TV 40 inches for around £360 and the difference between it and my 10 year old 1080p is astonishing for a budget.

Just wish I had a bigger space for something like an LG, but it does the job

Yeah, I'm so impressed with the whole 4K image and HDR that I'm now looking to upgrade the main room TV much sooner than I planned. I'll be going LCD with that one though, as I don't want to have to worry about how the rest of the family is using it and baby it.

I'll be waiting on a fire sale before I get the 4K LotR:

£70 for a version that isn't as good as the blu-rays? No thanks.

TV is now on the wall awaiting initial setup at the weekend, had to put the AV receiver on top of the TV unit as its far bigger than I thought (stupidly I neglected to make sure the shelves on the TV unit were wide enough as well as tall enough), doesn't look too bad but its still annoying.

I’ve been watching a load of videos by the legendary Vincent Teoh, to tweak my TV and Xbox settings to something optimal, and I picked up this little tip.

For anyone with the LG CX (might work on other models too), if you rapidly press the green button on the remote six or seven times, it opens a window that displays the details of the video it’s receiving (resolution, framerate, etc). Nice if you want to check how your console is performing.

Have bit the bullet and backordered a Panasonic HZ1500B, hopefully it'll arrive before the end of the year.

Excited even if it might be a bit annoying to get stuff like Disney+ working through it.

Have got the TV and AV receiver set up now but need to tweak a few settings as the sound is slightly out of sync and driving me insane.

Tried using the 'lip sync' setting on the AV receiver (Yamaha RX-V4A) but didn't really seem to do anything, the user manual is bloody useless as it essentially just says "this is a thing" and doesn't actually explain how to use it.

How have you got it set up? Device > TV > AV? or device > AV > TV?

Even using Arc in the first option I always found i had audio sync issues. The only way I could resolve perfectly was to do the latter option.

I've got it set up as the latter so there's just a single cable going to the TV.

Seems fine with Netflix but when watching Blurays there's noticable audio lag, got a new 4K Bluray player on the way for Christmas so I'll see if that makes a difference.

A quick look on AVforums suggests updating the firmware might improve things too.

I'm noticing that everyone on Facebook/Twitter seems to have their TVs in the corner of the room.

Are they all totally mental or are we wrong?!

I think a lot of them are region free but coming from the states and therefore potentially stuck in customs or a lorry queue somewhere in Kent. I've avoided buying the 4K Dog Soldiers remaster for this reason.

Any other suggestions/recommendations?

I went for the 55 inch version of this Samsung a couple of weeks back, when it was on sale (599) -

Its my first Samsung (had a 32 Sony previously) and I'm very happy with it so far (it just took a bit of tinkering with the picture settings at the start before I got it right).

Is it blocking an under stairs door, and do you have a feature wall?
