Got some Currys vouchers in work so treated myself to the 55” LG C9 OLED and SL9YG sound bar bundle they have on there. I was just going to get the TV, but considering it was almost free, I wasn’t going to get that kind of deal on the audio again. Over £2k worth of kit for a £450 outlay. The absolute scenes.

Watched top gun at the weekend. The sound was phenomenal, just amazing, but the picture was pretty poor really. Certainly didn't look 4k, very very grainy, and only the cockpit parts seemed to make use of HDR to make the colours pop. Oh that and the graduation ceremony where the white suits they're wearing were so dazzling it was like looking directly at the sun. Picture wise I'd probably struggle to reccomend it over a standard bluray.

Is there any way to get 4K YouTube on my LG C7? Through the app and Sky Q there aren't any options over 1080p.

I'm thinking about getting a LG B9 4K TV. I read that it automatically upscales 720 and 1080p content, but that in doing so it smooths out jaggies on games. So could someone with a LG 4K TV tell me how noticeable it is? Thanks.

I didn't realise 1917 was out already on UHD, so I've just ordered that.

I've got a LG C9, did anyone change the settings? Seems pretty good to me out of the box, I just change mode depending on activity.

Are you sure you’ve picked a video which has 4K?

I have a B7, which is the same TV with a different stand and get 4K HDR YouTube with the built in app and pretty much always have done.

I find most 4K stuff is barely noticeably better than standard Bluray and I can't say I've ever noticed HDR making any difference.

Maybe my TV is just gooseberry fool.

Maybe you’ve only got 1080p eyes.

A question for you guys with experience of 4K TVs and 1080p content. I'm in the market for a new TV but I am conflicted over whether to stick to 1080p or go to 4k.

Streaming is 100% of our TV watching experience. We live in a rural area, and although the internet isn't terrible (~8-10Mbps), it is very slow by modern standards and I don't think it would cope at all with 4k content. On the other hand, I have recently picked up an Xbox One X so I'm interested in seeing it's full potential at 4k. However, I don't want to go 4k purely for gaming if it will negatively impact other media consumption (streaming, Blu-Ray) at 1080p.

So what would you recommend? Does 1080p content on 4k TVs look decent, or is there a noticable downgrade?

If it helps, then due to space constraints (converted bungalow - slanted upstairs ceiling) I would be sticking to around a ~40-45 inch screen size.

I think at that size you would definitly still want to go for 4k. Pretty sure the new Tv's have good upscaling for 1080p material, but I would wait for one of the resident posters in the know for their opinion.

Yeah 4k is a must. Mine is 65" (Kenneth.jpg) and 1080p looks fantastic on it, very very crisp. A proper 4k bluray like infinity war or planet earth 2 just looks strawberry floating incredible. You'll kick yourself for going 1080p.

Just turned off all the motion smoothing.

I'll buck the trend and say that to be honest at 40" there's not going to be much benefit to 4k unless you're sitting extremely close.
