A tip for LG CX (and older gen top range model owners as well, maybe):

I find that when watching UHD content the Cinema Home (for rooms with ambient light) setting is superior to Cinema (for fully darkened room) due to the slightly brighter picture. Even when watching both in a darkened setting. But! with default settings, Cinema Home has the TruMotion setting Cinema Clear turned on, and you cannot switch it off. Unless you follow this tip  General setting > AI Service > switch off Auto Genre Selection. You can now switch off Cinema Clear in Cinema Home. CINEMA!

(And no, copying settings from CH to C won't do it - C will stay darker by default.)

Just gotta say - again - that I dang love my new TV. It's probs not ultra latest tech compared to some of the screens you guys have, but it's a great picture, HDR is lovely and I can watch Netflix and iPlayer on it. I love it!

Going by posts in this thread, having a new tv appears to be a massive pain in the arse.

Would be pissed to drop £2k on something that then needs patches to fix.

Spend 2k on a decent brand and you won't have that trouble :shifty:

It's funny because the ability to patch said something will in the long run extend its usefulness.

That it's better than what you had before, and you're enjoying it, is all that matters.

I thought the LG CX was considered one of the best?

I don't know how bad the issue is, and maybe I am just getting confused with other problems but there seems to be quite a few people on this forum complaining about issues with Picture settings, or motion settings or HDR etc. Just seems like a bit of a palava.

In the market to buy a new TV, and all this stuff is making me think I should hold off for the moment.

I think we’re just being nit-picky perfectionists, wanting to maximise our investment. Straight out of the box on default settings, everything is stunningly great. Watch a couple of videos to get some recommended settings and you’re all good.

Nothing desperately needs fixing. The software updates are mostly just refinements to make things better still. Truth is, many of the changes are unnoticeable without professional testing gauges.

Like the thing which the latest CX patch fixed, I wouldn't have known peak brightness had been accidentally reduced if not for a YouTube video. And as for the motion/soap opera effect issue (which is only an issue if it bothers you, and if it does then you can switch it off)... you're going to be holding off for a long time if you think that'll put you off.

Depends what you want to do with it. If you're only gonna watch films, then the Panasonic TX-HZ2000 is probably the best. It's also that much pricier. CX is better for gaming, and not that far off for watching films. It's also a good bit cheaper.

I’m just looking forward to going to a 4K set after 10 years (almost to the day I think by the time my new TV arrives), so expecting a really good upgrade even without fiddling about with settings.

That's neat, Robbo - I just upgraded after nearly 13 years and, yeah, the difference in picture quality makes for a great experience.

My goodness even without tinkering with the settings (which I probably won’t do much) it looks really nice! Just watched a bit of TV over dinner so will load a couple of games up soon to see how they look.

Remember to use the HDR calibrator on the new consoles as it really does make a huge difference.
I did on my set and found out my settings were way off and the picture is way better now.

It's really easy to do and I think you'll be surprised by the results.

I’ll leave that for tomorrow as for now I’m loving just jumping between games, seeing how utterly gorgeous they all look beforehand! Just loaded up my Switch and I’m surprised how much better Pokémon and Animal Crossing look from a very quick look! The TV’s various standard HDR settings are quite good even without calibrating the Xbox, on the ‘vivid’ setting Animal Crossing New Horizons really pops with colour. In Valhalla the lighting effects with HDR just seem so much better too.

They'll be releasing a standard version of Dawn of the Dead 4K in March. Same as previous release but sans the tat and audio CDs. £30. (It's up on Zavvi.)

I’m not really keen on buying loads of 4K movies but I have seen that apparently Scott Pilgrim is getting a release? Anyone know when that might be releasing?

Not seen it appear in any pre-order lists I've seen.

I think his exact settings makes subs much more harder to read, but it's good to know those options are there.
