Ask Richer Sounds how they'll be doing the repair.

Oof at the sudden burn. Were you regularly carrying out the maintenance thing within options? (Picture > OLED Screen Saver > Pixel Refresher)

Good will gesture? Isn't screen burn covered by the warranty?

I was yeah! The mark is unexplained, I’ve racked my brain at what could have done it but nothing I use makes that mark.

Burn in has never been part of most general guarantees. It's also meant to be a much rarer occurrence than during the days of plasma TV.

That’s what I thought. Dammit.
Richer Sounds and LG have been pretty good about it so far, and it’s not going to cost me anything. Kinda hope they replace my tv with a newer model :shifty:

Guess I'll have to start running that strawberry floater every week.

My retail warranty runs out next year. I called up the extended guarantee number that came with the TV to see if their policy would cover it. It wouldn't. Sigh.

Richer Sounds sound mint out of it. But LG asking for £200 is sort of a good price considering the cost of the telly...

£1300! It’s £200 for 55 inch stuff, £250 for 65 inch.

Is that you saying it's not a good deal? A surprise £200 bill is never fun, of course. I get that. But if it's out of warranty, and considering the type of issue (one not usually covered under warranties and guarantees)... if it were me, I'd have been expecting it to cost loads more. But that's just me.

No no I think it’s reasonable. I mean, not paying for it is even better.

It could be the display driver board rather than burn? If the colours have gone it could be you’ve lost green in certain areas for example so those bits will look extra red/blue than normal as no green is being added

That’s quite a common fault with Samsung and LGs I’ve found in the past. Something like that should be covered under warranty for the people worried about that.

Got a picture?

Why am I only finding out this is a thing now? :dread:

Edit: looking into it, on the C9 (and i assume a lot of models) seems there is an automatic refresher and people say that's okay to rely on?

Several mate, I’ve had to get my shoot on, on a yellow background, a green one, something else. Dunno how to post photos on here.

LG added screen burn coverage to their newer OLED TVs in the past few years. John Lewis also cover it as part of their 5 year warranty.

A blue/green swipe/line sounds more like panel failure though, as those type of things happen on LCDs too (my Samsung in I think 2008 or 09 had a vertical line running the entirety of the screen - they wanted almost the entire price of the TV to fix it so I didn't bother).

Who told you that? LG themselves have told me it isn’t.

My Panasonic does some kind of refresh process each time it's put into standby, which I imagine is pretty common now.
