I honestly think I'm at my perfect TV size at the moment.
I have a 55 inch Samsung and if I do replace it I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the same size again rather than a larger set.
I'd rather have a better quality picture at this size than a larger set for the same money.
I also have absolutely zero interest in 8K as I don't think even next gen machines in 7 or so years will do 8K justice.

Also at 55" you can't really tell the difference between 4k and 8k anyway. I saw a video a while ago where a TV reviewer got 2 TVs, one 8k and one a top of the line 4k, I think at 55" or 65", and got his mates to come over and compare. He didn't tell them one of them was 8k, and they said the 4k one looked better.

Hopefully I'll have my TV tomorrow, but I wont actually set it up right away as I'll want to decorate the room first - which I'm hoping to get done as quick as possible.

Didn't you get a promotion at work recently? Couldn't you put a bit aside from that bump for something like this as a reward to yourself?

I think that'll be the plan. I've got some Airsoft and vintage console stuff I can sell to help rustle up the funds too.

What size are you after and how bothered are you by HDMI 2.1 features like 4K 120hz and VR? Because there are quite a lot of options to bring down the price.

Also check out places like AV Forums classifieds. I’ve bought a few TVs on there over the years and had no issues - you can save a lot of money. I just upgraded from a 55” B7 to a 65” CX and saved about £500 over what the same size C1 would have cost.

Put all her shoes on eBay and use the money for the TV :shifty: .

I'm sure she won't mind.

Avoiding any unknown brands, the best I can see after a quick look at the reviews is

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sharp-HT-SBW110-Mountable-Subwoofer-Bluetooth/dp/B079QX3MWM?tag=dreamyhome-21&th=1

There's a couple of similar priced LG ones too.

I would have recommended looking for a Yamaha one but they seem to have discontinued a lot of their cheaper end stuff, can't really get anything under £300 (I bought mine a few years ago for around £140 but there were cheaper options at the time.

Prices of everything just seems to be getting silly now.

I'm skipping 8k and just going to wait for 16k.

Maybe, just maybe 16k will make Picard season 2 watchable.

Perfect timing. The savings have been long but finally met and I have signoff/approvement/authorisation from all necessary parties.

Budget of about £2k - £2.5k, looking for a 75" ideally, but only up to a point.

What say you K to the Klein? Do you know the price of a 75" for the above or would you recommend getting last years model?

The 77” LG C1 (around £2,600) from 2021 is by far the best choice at that price point.

Otherwise you’re sailing well past the £3,000 mark for the 2022 models. The G2 would be over £4,500 not even including the stand if you require one.

The 2021 G1 is still £3,500-£3,600. LG’s “Evo” enhanced models for 2021/2022 do get brighter but not by much.

Once you exceed 65” prices get very expensive unless you downgrade the quality of TV, which you don’t really want to do because the problems inherent with LED/LCD TVs start to show themselves more prevalently at bigger sizes (inconsistent backlighting, smearing with fast motion, a dirty panning effect on sports).

Richer sounds have the Phillips 48" 806 Ambilight on at £799.
Supposed to be an LG screen inside it, and it has a built in subwoofer (?!)

This wasn't on my radar at all, but the price might be an easy way to get the HDR10, HDMI 2.1 OLED experience at a price the wife won't be too angry about.

Anyone got one of these or seen one in person?

I’m not sure about their entire range as my local retailers always favour other brands in the £1000 and under bracket, but I know the OLED 936 is excellent. Rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, they’ve also stuck a Bowers and Wilkins soundbar underneath on the stand, resulting in unsurprisingly the best sound of anyone.

I’d rather purchase a TV with middling sound and get the sound bar separately but as an all-in-one solution it’s the best around.

Philips do use Android TV like Sony, which isn’t to everyone’s taste, but it’s now massively better than the shitshow I’m currently using from 2016.
