Unless you're going to buy a PS3 to watch a lot of Blu Ray movies, I don't see the point in it at all. Very few games properly support the feature. And it's 100% pointless on a TV less than 40inches.

No one is using it for general television.

whilst full hd is a waste of time on anything less than a 40" if you are going to get one that big you may as well get one.

If you think the w4500 is a good set wait until you see the y4500. It's got a 200hz picture which sounds b*llocks but it's silky smooth in motion. The older X3000 is probably the best LCD ever made and side by side with the freesat panasonic 42" looked much better in my shop over the olympics. The Y improves this somewhat and for the first time ever: pioneer should be scared.

Have you seen the new 37'' Kuro from Pioneer? Its fudging brilliant..as for the Y model, nobody will buy it as its way too much money for people to spend at the moment.

As there's a bloody big difference between Sky & Freeview, & I don't just mean the obvious either. The Samsung I have (which is verging on the definition of 'strawberry floated') has really terrible freeview. Whereas Sky has natural, vibrant colours - the picture quality on sport is fabulous - you turn it over onto Freeview & it's blurred & as unnatural as a bucket of water with 10 parts chlorine.

Sky mate, the picture looks loads better than the W4000, the freeview doesnt look too bad but it all looks a lot 'smoother' one thing I will say depending on which setting you have you TV on (dynamic, normal, cinema etc) it can look very artifical especially on brighter images.

Yeah, £1800 is a lot on any tv really. We haven't got the new pioneer 37" yet. That's the 1 with the sharp LCD panel isn't it? I do look forward to seeing it in the flesh. How much is it going for? If it's ~£900 it'll sell like hot cakes.

£1099 at the moment, mother of god its beautiful, it looks like the PZ range of Pana Tv's but with that lovely sturdy Pioneer build.

Reckon it will be a grand for xmas but unless something gives in the financial market I dont think it will sell well.

Hmm.

Tempted by the Sony KDL-26V4000 for my bedroom (£385 at Amazon), but...

What's the latest on dead pixels? Has there been an improvement in manufacturing screens so it's not an issue, or are the return policies improving?

I don't want to be stuck with a pup.

Does anyone have this issue? It's not mentioned in the downsides of LCD in the first post.

Cheers,

Buy from the high street. If you need to return it there are less quibbles, john lewis and sony centres will give you a 5 year warranty and richer sounds match web prices and only charge 10% for 5 years.

All of the major HDTV broadcasts in the UK are in 1080i, so you need a 1920x1080 set to take advantage of the full resolution. Most sets which support only 1080i and not 1080p are much lower resolution.

I think anyone wanting a 32 incher should really consider 1080p for future proofing now, or wait for the prices to come down further imo. I got a 26 inch samsung a few years back almost now and am still finding it brilliant for hd stuff, but its pretty average for normal tv which I watch most of the time and might consider a 1080p 32 inch later down the line when prices level off. Another thing that annoys me with my tv is the lack of hdmi 1:1 pixel mapping which means 5% of the picture is cut off on my ps3 games, I am not sure whether this can be fixed via a firmware update using the CAM slot? (I have the samsung R74 if thats any help)

The pixel mapping problem has been alleviated as certain ps3 games feature a zoom option, including LittleBigPlanet, MGS4 and PES 2008/09.

Anything fast moving (sport usually) is mostly broadcast in 720p. You've also got to consider how much standard definition you're going to be watching, as on a big 1080p set, it doesn't look very appealing.

BBC HD is 1080i. SkyHD doesn't currently support 1080p at all.

Correct and Fishfingers, 720p is better for HD than 1080i anyway.

And whoever asked about the warranties, please check the T&C first, 10% is all well and good and Im sure richer sounds have a super back up service......

glowy is right: 1080i is pretty much a waste of time. 720p is much smoother. No good having more detail is the framerate is choppy. And anyone thinking sky will bother broadcasting in 1080p in the next few years without a hike in suscription costs to cover the huge bandwidth and upgrades needed is kidding themselves. Most people have </=32" so broadcasting in 1080p would be a waste of time.

We also got the new pioneers in today as well, including the 32" model. They are bloody nice sets, aren't they? That brushed aluminium finish is gorgeous (and much better than that cheap piano gloss black on all the other sets. It's a pain on the ass to dust and now everything looks like my psp!) and the sound quality is astounding. Why do people put up with the samsung wet fart speakers?

I asked Samsung Customer Services how much it'd cost to have my TV repaired. They quoted...£500. I honestly thought they were joking.

"But...it's just a faint line"

What a useless service. Their repair call out may as well cease to exist.

It's only about 2 years old. I'm sure this can't be legal. My opinion of the company is dipping somewhat.

This is where getting a free extended warranty with your set is a very good idea.

Surely the point of a repair service is to repair something cheaper than it would be to buy a whole brand new set? And if Samsung think I'm going to go & buy another of their televisions because of it, they can wholeheartedly strawberry float off.

Just goes to show how much better the likes of Sky & Sony's Customer Care really is.

You would largley find that the better and more expensive the set, the better the after sales is. Try talking to them if you are a retailer, they are morons.

Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic and Sky have good customer service.

Dyson have the best in the whole wide world.
