The spec list is just too bare for my tastes and I'd rather watch telly on a plasma (blacks aren't black enough on LCDs and there's usually artefacts on fast moving scenes). But it's still a good set if you're on a budget and I'm sure it'd be a good buy (it's got positive customer reviews). I'm thinking of getting it as a replacement for my currant LCD which I play the 360 on.

We've got an LCD, a plasma and an LED running together at work and the LCD and the LED both have blacker blacks than the plasma. However, the colours on the plasma are more natural and also deeper.

In conclusion, I like the plasma more, but not for the reasons you gave.

Obviously it depends on the LCD/plasma we have. I recently went from a at-the-time top of the range CRT to a plasma. The blacks on the plasma are black black and easily comparable to anything the CRT put out and, unlike the LCD I'm currently stuck with -it too a Pana, they aren't washed out nor lacking detail in shadowed areas of scenes.

Also, I seriously doubt you're going to get stellar blacks and or motion out of the linked Pana what with it being a basic model.

Wouldn't recommend it as a primary set but it's good for what it is.

Wat?

Why? Not everyone can afford a top of the line model mate, and its years ahead of the similar priced LCD's out there

Also, not being able to afford a VT30 or D8000 doesn't mean people should settle for the lower rung models.

Missed your comment

And if they can't afford it then that all they can settle for surely?

If that's all they can afford then yeah it's not a bad set to settle for at all.

Actually, thinking about it a bit, if they can't afford the VT30 (and are Pana fanatics and don't want anything else :shifty:  ) then settling for that linked set wouldn't be a bad choice as the sets slightly below the VT30 still suffer from the 2010 glitches. The linked one may suffer from them too, but at least they're not paying through the nose for it!

I'd really quite like that set you're talking about as I have a lot of blu-ray stuff and I feel like 32" isn't big enough to really make the most of it. Don't get me wrong, the picture looks absolutely fantastic and we do sit pretty close to the TV (probably 6-7 feet away), but I imagine it would really get into its stride at 42". I'm going to have to sell my current TV at a loss as the highest offer I've had has been £275, which I wish I'd taken now, although it was withdrawn very quickly after as he decided he wanted a new one with warranty.

What do you guys think? Is 32" simply not big enough to really smash the gooseberry fool out of blu-rays?

42" is the new 32". Especially at that price. And for films... the bigger the better.

That price is insane, no?

Because it's a series 4. 3D isn't so good till series 7 onwards apparently.

And it's only 720p (just in case anyone missed that). Which I guess isn't too bad considering how close Ob sits to his telly.

Good job I've got you dudes here to stop me making bad purchases .

I think I'm just going to wait until the January sales... either that or just be happy with what I've got (which I am, to be honest).

Just purchased the 42ST30. £550 from amazon which I thought was good value. Does 3D as well.

Anyone know what the set is like?

I understand the GT30 is better but couldn't justify the extra £300.

The only differences between the GT30 and ST30 sets are no freesat HD (who cares since you have Freeview HD), it doesn't have the THX 3D certification (definitely the the best feature difference between the two sets) nor does it have the ISF calibration tools (no great loss, although a nice feature for sure), doesn't have DLNA (a computer plugged into the TV or a games console recreates a lot of this anyway) and you can't record to a USB external harddrive (although you can playback your pirated .MKV files etc on it). Like the more expensive Panasonic plasmas, it has the infinite black pro picture which only the VT30 and GT30 also have.

Given the choice, I'd choose it over the Pansonic G30 which can be had for the same price: http://www.hyperfi.co.uk/panasonic-vier ... -1542.html whilst the G30 doesn't have 3D, it's the top 2D only plasma out atm and it has the 2D THX certificate, DNLA support and USB HDD recording. But I think the better contrast (G30 has infinite black) edges it for me.

I think you got a fantastic deal considering six years ago I paid the price you're paying now for a 26" Samsung HD ready TV with only 1 HDMI port.

Am I correct in thinking that even the most average Panasonic plasma is better than the best LCD screen for colours/contrast ratio?

So say Panasonic S30 (plasma) vs Panasonic E30 (LED LCD). If both are the same price, then there would be almost no reason to choose the LCD over the plasma?

Pretty much, yeah.

Except for wall-mounting.

I know not everyone here shares my (maybe somewhat deluded) fascination with oled but the news that Samsung and LG are about to show a 55" oled screen means the technology may be in all our homes within the next decade.
