Anecdotal, but we stayed at a lodge last weekend which was pretty swish and had what looked like decent LG smart tvs in each room. I don't know what spec they were but holy gooseberry fool they were crap to use compared to what I've got. The UI actually had to load when you clicked on a setting (I was doing my duty and turning motion smoothing off for the next people), and we used Netflix to watch something while having breakfast, motion smoothing was back on, so I tried to load up the settings menu (the tv settings) and a message came up saying it was closing Netflix to save memory so it could open the settings menu
dreadful thing. The picture was gooseberry fool too, despite it showing 4k and hdr in the corner when we started a program.
I guess what I'm getting at is don't take smart tv to necessarily mean it's a good tv. Read up on how quick the UI for a particular model is.

Yeah the 65" TCL I bought has a beautiful picture and really nice sound (in built soundbar) but the UI is pretty poor. Takes maybe 15 seconds to actually turn on due to the system starting (is that normal for modern 4k TVs)?

I've got an LGC9 and it pretty much comes on immediately without much delay.
Processor speed has become a pretty big factor in TVs with everything we ask them to do now.

No mine switches on almost instantly and I can be watching something in Netflix from the quick launch in seconds. Annoyingly the sky box is oldish now, so you have to sit and wait for that to do its thing with the tv sat patiently on a blank screen.

It's a TCL problem. I have one and it's the same.

It's a TCL problem. I have one and it's the same.
My Sony one takes almost 30 seconds to fully start up, its Android that's utter cack.

The biggest issue I have with turning on the C9 is the Bluetooth on the magic remote. Often drops sync while the tv is off and can take up to 15 seconds before it re-establishes the connection and then responds to the on button

Blue Planet 2 in 4k is a strawberry floating spiritual experience. Holding off on watching other episodes for now so I can smoke to them.

For those with slow boot up times, are you sure you haven’t got energy save and eco modes turned on? If you are also booting from cold (mains unplugged) rather than standby (a lot of modern TVs don’t actually have an off button) that will also slow the start up.
I have the Xbox One X set to eco and it takes about a minute to get going.

What is a good brand of HDMI cable these days? I usually use Amazon Basics stuff, but I need a couple of 2.1 cables and I don't think they do them.

I never bother with brand name cables as they're pretty much all the same, I tend to get ones between 10 and 15 quid usually.

Speaking theoretically... where's the best place to grab 4k content?
The only torrent site I see it on is RUtracker but the audio track is always in Russian. PM if necessary would be much appreciated
