Yeah all the guides I looked at said to turn off most of that stuff, I’ll have to test it out when I get mine.

I think it’s generally true of most TVs - you’re better off turning off any image processing stuff, or at least setting them to their lowest level.

I called off his players' names as they came marching up the steps behind him....All nice guys. They'll finish last. Nice guys. Finish last.

Well, after 12-13 years my beloved Panasonic plasma is slowly dying.
The screen is going, there are weird blotches that appear to be spreading out across it.

So from a standing start of not knowing anything about current TV tech, I've narrowed the field down to either the Panasonic 50HX800 or the LG 49NANO866. Does anyone have either of these sets or another alternative to throw into the mix? My criteria is a TV under 50 inches and ideally under £800.

The LG would be better for next gen gaming as it has two HDMI 2.1 ports so you would be able to get 4k 120fps. You won't get that on any other TV that size for under £800.

Everyone knows Blue Planet II is still on iPlayer, yes? I ask because days before actually getting the TV I was considering buying the 4K BR. iPlayer also has Seven Worlds, One Planet, which also looks stunning.

Is the Iplayer version 4k/HDR?

The app itself? No. But watchable 4K HDR content will appear if you search for 'UHD' within iPlayer. (Same goes for Prime.) They don't have a lot up, but what is there is worth a watch. Make note of the questionnaire address below the iPlayer UHD content if you want BBC to know you want more.

Nice, I’ll check that out, I bet BP looks amazing on the screen!

SoK have you fiddled with any settings yet for HDR and SDR content? Or you just going with the standard settings?

The real thing to go test out your fancy new OLED is Tetris Effect. It’s mind blowing.

That and the demo video where they’re making all sorts of fancy teas

Only thing I changed is I shunted sharpness down to 0 (on both SDR and HDR), and I keep messing with Dynamic Contrast, Dynamic Tone Mapping and Peak Brightness depending on what UHD content I'm watching.

Tip: if you press and hold down the gear button on the remote, it'll take you directly into the picture setting menu. (Pressing and holding only cuts out one additional action, but I still like using it.)

I've only got a base PS4 but will check it out all the same.

What's this fancy teas video? Honestly, I find I am more open to watching things, both things I like and also stuff I wouldn't otherwise think to watch, now that I have a new TV.

It should be on your TVs internal storage. If you go look at the photos/videos app. It was in the C9s, and I assume it’s in the CX too

The app has all the artificial gooseberry fool on when you first launch it, so you’ll want to make some adjustments

Hopefully I can diagnose and resolve any issues but failing that what would be the go to option for a solid, approximately 40" TV these days?

Is it just for daily viewing? You're not fussed about having best possible image, etc? LG Nanocell may be worth a look. Cheap-ish at about £500 for the 43", but you also get 4K HDR. (HDR10+ / Hybrid Log-Gamma.)

This one?

That looks nice so I'll keep an eye on it. Not massively fussed on getting top quality, although it would be our primary TV for the foreseeable future so I'd want to make sure it was "good enough".

Switch to Store Mode in the settings. It’s dazzling. Especially the honey.

That's the one. (No idea why they have TruMotion as a key selling point, as all that does is give the "soap opera effect".) You should be okay if you go with a manufacturer like LG, Samsung, Genuine Panafonics, Magnetbox, Sorny or even Hisense.

Was a little concerned about getting the LG BX rather than the CX but having looked at a direct comparison it seems the differences are mostly minor or simply won't apply to me (Main ones being CX has better stand but I'm wall mounting mine and CX has better speakers but I'll be using some big ass floorstanders via an AV receiver).

Both models get very similar verdicts at RTINGS.com so I'm not too worried.

I don't have it  I checked the photos and videos app and all it had pre-installed in there was 4 or 5 scenic photos.

Yeah, HDTVTEST said much the same.

I had no idea base PS4 could send out HDR data :o Look at all the games! https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/all-p ... ible-games Lack of 4K res means the image lacks the same wow factor are as full fat UHD content, but that's still pretty cool :toot:

I’ve never even looked where jiggles said, thb. Go to Settings - All settings - General - Additional settings, and switch from Home Mode to Store Mode.
