My LG CX 55 is due to arrive tomorrow morning (after an unexplained delay).

It’s going upstairs to sit in my ‘office’ - I’m guessing it’s pretty light but would those of you who have recently got one say it is straightforward/doable/possible to get it set up on it’s stand singlehanded?

I have a rare entire day to myself tomorrow so I’m hoping to get it set up for a day of uninterrupted gaming fun!

I've found 1080p content still looks great on a 4k screen.

Tbh even 720p stuff looks really good to my eyes. SD is wank though for sure.

I forced myself to use the DVD collection I have of X-Files recently on my new TV and the picture was laughably bad.

I wanted the full original experience and I bloody got it :slol:

To be fair though the thing that shocked me most was how gooseberry fool all the cars they drive are. It's like they had a car budget of about £5.

They'd have trouble outrunning a Vauxhall Nova.

It’s not pretty light, but it is doable (but somewhat risky) to do it solo.

I've got an old plasma Panasonic, which is still trundling along just fine. Must be 10 years old, and I reckon it'll be 720p. It felt pretty cutting edge back then, what with its EPG and dazzling free-sat abilities.

I mean, it suits me. But I'm starting to itch about relegating it to another room and getting something new, mainly because of the current / next gen consoles.

So, I've got Sky Q and a PS4 which I don't intend upgrading any time in the next few years. But then I've also pre-ordered an Xbox series s. Now, I know that's the low fat version and won't be capable of very high definition stuff.

But I'm still thinking it would benefit from a fairly basic HD TV upgrade on what I've got now. But, I'm also a bit confused as to whether one with Hdmi 2.1 would be worthwhile or not, given the Series S seems relatively low powered?

I'm also really not bothered about massively high def stuff or future-proofing. Partly because I tend to sit not that far from the telly.

But mainly because at the rate TVs fall in price, I'll wait for mass adoption of whatever is a decent technology at the time and upgrade in a few years when it's not cutting edge.

Anyways. Any advice on what would get the most out the current set up, or things to avoid?

Going backwards and forwards on whether to plump for an OLED/QLED option when I eventually pull the trigger on a new TV. I don't want to spend big bucks so debating whether a low end OLED is worth it or whether the smarter idea is to get the best that someone offers in their standard LED range?

Annoys me that everything in the market is geared towards massive panels now though. I just want a really nice 40" screen but it seems like most manufacturers only put their decent tech into stuff once you start getting above 50" these days! :fp:

Exactly, my 43" TV has been more than enough for years. Yet I'm feeling I'll be somehow disappointed with a smaller screen than 50" now, largely because that's where the main marketing push seems to be.

What's worse, cart before the horse style, is that I've just paid half a grand for a really decent TV unit that fits in with the room, so one of my other bugbears is those massive TVs whose stand is at either side instead of the middle, because it might not fit.

I'm secretly not really bothered about 8K or anything, as long as it fits on that stand. I appreciate this is a niche concern.

I have decided to postpone my purchase until the new consoles are out and I see some proper feedback when it comes to how these TVs actually perform with the new consoles.

I was quite set on the Sony X900H as they had the 75 inch model for 2000 euro, which was the sweet spot for me in financial terms, and had some very decent feedback. With OLED I will always have the issue of image retention in the back of my mind, however I still havnt ruled the 65CX out completely.

When the feedback about how these panels from the usual youtubers start rolling out, it will be what actually makes me pull the trigger. Considering that im not even guaranteed a ps5 on launch day.

Well my Panasonic tx-40hx820 got delivered yesterday. Fantastic, just in time lockdown v2. Feels good to get rid of the youview box and firestick.
Love being able to flip between live TV, Netflix and prime pretty much instantly.
If you're after a smaller screen size I'd definitely recommend it.

I think you've got that the wrong way round. The closer you sit, the higher the definition needs to be, because your eyesight will see more of the detail given the shorter distance it has to focus.l

Put your budget and size preference into somewhere like Currys online filters. Google what comes up, see if it's got a review on something like What Hi-Fi and go from there.

Watch out for the number of HDMI inputs.

Finally managed to find and order a TV unit.

Couldn't get my first choice as there was a 12-16 week delivery time and it was seemingly impossible to get something delivered this year from anywhere that was ready assembled.

The one I finally found has a 28 day delivery time but at this point I no longer care.

Can I ask the TV experts on here whether my TV is 120hz capable?

Doesn't have HDMI 2.1 so I don't think it would.

Yes, but...

It can do 1080p at 120Hz, or 4k at 60Hz, but it can’t do 4k at 120Hz.

But as the video above says, that might not be such an issue at this point.
