Not sure what the errors are. it's more likely the higher resolution is showing what wasn't seen before. In terms of making them appear similar to the hobbit - that was to do with the Colour grading and HDR - which was far more basic in the original films and they've simply improved the standard up to the level of the hobbit.

I've seen the blu rays on my Oled and I've now seen the 4k ones on it. It's a marked improvement. The sound improvement is even more so. I'll happily mail you the theatrical versions if you'd like. I trust you to send them back.

Check the video I linked in the post. Biggest mess ups are the top of Gandalf's staff is missing in one of the frames, and in another an artefact from a frame down the line (part of Shadowfax's head) shows up in an earlier scene. It's sloppy as strawberry float for such a highly regarded release. (Feels like they rushed it to get it out before Christmas.)

Oh boy, yeah, I watched Doctor Who last night and the 4K HDR presentation was phenomenal. The story not so much but the image quality was so impressive; especially the opening credit sequence .

Ok so I think I’ll go for this TV, sadly a 50” set just won’t go in the one real/current space I’ve got my current TV (current TV is a 40” one anyway, so still a small upgrade). What’s the deal with TruMotion 100? I’ve read that it doubles the 50hz refresh rate but then how would it go with the Series X when some games could in theory go up to 120fps? But then the HDMI are 2.0 so surely would top out at 4K/60fps anyway? Has anyone here got one of these ‘Nanocell’ TV’s? Ticks all the boxes (even the 43” having 3 HDMI ports) but just thought I’d ask.

You're talking about a fraction of a second where a tiny part is missing. I never even noticed it in watching the film. As for the so called degrading he describes - he gives examples of fangorn where the image actually looks better and says it has lost non existent detail. I wouldn't mind but the guy claims to have no means to capture images and has taken these from another site. He gives a detailed analysis of mistakes and doesn't even provide examples from his own viewing because he can't screen grab. Nonsense.

Overwhelmingly reviews have praised the quality of the transfer and the obvious visual and audio upgrades. This is one guy who is nit picking to an extraordinary degree. If you're willing to forgo seeing them that's your lookout but that video is not a compelling argument to do so.
I've watched them. They look and sound amazing.

My guess is, that, TrueMotion 100 is the effect which causes what is known as the "soap opera effect". (Makes motion seem unnaturally smooth.) Most calibration articles or posts will recommend you switch it off/keep it on lowest setting. Chances are that it'd automatically be switched off when you played on the TV with the Game settings.

Thanks, I’ll probably get round to buying it tomorrow/near future so I’ll certainly try it out of the box before messing around with the settings (although sounds like lowest setting could be a nice sweet spot?). Wasn’t planning on upgrading my TV this year but can’t exactly grumble at the fact my current one has just about turned 10 years old, if it didn’t have the annoying backlight flicker I wouldn’t be thinking about upgrading this year anyway.

I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you're referring to and it's so weird. I wonder why enhanced motion makes things look so unnatural and cheap would be interested to know the science behind it.

Can anyone who's upgraded from a native 60hz to 120hz TV confirm whether 24 fps content looks better as a result of the equal multiplication of frames? Do you still get judder on panning shots?

Definitely see it on streaming content. Will report back on UHD discs once my PS5 stops being exclusively a Borderlands 3 machine.

My current TV has had a resurgence

Been watching/playing Valhalla for 3 hours now since I got home from work and not one flicker from the backlight, might be able to get a bit longer out of it after all although an upgrade would be very nice indeed.......

I watched 1917 (streaming) using Filmmaker Mode. It juddered and shimmered like crazy on certain shots. I tested out the LG CX's TruMotion settings on a panning shot before Lance Cpl. Schofield crosses the downed bridge at Ecouste.

TM off - TM <6 = Noticeable judder and soap opera effect.

I've decided to leave it on the 2nd pre-set. (Cinema or something.)

Apparently judder isn't always a failing of the TV; Film-makers have ways to reduce it at their end, both while filming (not panning beyond a particular speed) and in post-production (software). But also, certain things which are intrinsically linked to UHD (namely the large screen and sharper more colourful image) make otherwise acceptable levels of judder more noticeable. I'll have a look at the HDTV Test review of the CX to see if there's a way to lessen it without introducing the soap opera effect. When I'm able to, I'll also check the 1917 4K BR to see if it's any different on that.

Seriously everyone, 1917 is an amazing film. (Both as a film and a UHD showcase.) Get it watched if you haven't already. My favourite "oooh UHD!" scene is still it going all black at the double KO. And then the scene after with the flares. And also Schofield running through Ecouste with the orange and the black all about him. And, and, and...
