So my farm colleagues (who are also my housemates kinda as we all live there) are Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm LDS ("Mormon") Attended their meeting yesterday. Still don't know what unique stuff they believe (we just studied Timothy's scriptures in the Bible) but something dawned on me. It doesn't matter one iota what church, if any, you belong to, if you're following Christ. He'll unite us all in the Millennium/Last Days anyways. LDS, JW, Catholic, Protestant, nondenominational, we're all following the same leader, just taking different paths to get there. He's the beacon of light and we're all going out of our way to reach it. If Christ really is important to you, it makes no sense why so many churches hate each other. It shouldn't be an "us versus them" mentality.
Tomorrow I'm going bowling with them. Going to be awkward as I don't have the dexterity in my right hand needed to properly throw the bowling ball. You know how we can't move the pinky on our right hand without moving the ring finger? Well I can't move the pinky OR the middle finger without moving the ring finger. We need our ring finger, middle finger and thumb to properly throw a bowling ball. My balls always go through the holes on the side instead of hitting any of the pins and I'm far too old to ask to have the barrier put up.

Other than that, the goat farm is going good. Exhausting work having to wake up at a time I'm not used to but easy work. Feeding the goats, making sure the kids suckle their mothers, filling up the bags of hay, watering the plants. The one difficult one is this morning when I had to clean out the goat poop/muck from the stables. It hadn't been cleaned out for six months and was very heavy, so while it's easy work in that a performing monkey could do it, it's very hard on our back.

Also I have a cabin to myself but I also have a room in the main house, which I'm using as the cabin doesn't have a toilet yet and I get short-changed during the night. This Sunday a French guy will be moving to the farm, so he'll have the top bunk while I'll have the bottom bunk. He's my age so it will be good to have male company instead of being perceived as the only male in the house. 'Course if he's a jerk I can always sleep in the cabin but here's hoping he's good company!

Sounds good. A nice mix of work and fun, and learning about each other. I agree about the us vs them mentality as well, since it really makes no sense to have it at all. It's not like they're two warring factions, just two groups supporting the same thing.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well, I’m at a pretty major moment in my life and I’m about to either make my best decision or my worst, firstly I have lost my Bavarian home thanks to several factors but not helped by someone who I thought of as being my best friend royally ripping me off, property rentals = all gone, property development = ceased trading due to lack of money and making someone jobless after years of loyalty, import and retail businesses are massively failing and I’d say are down by probably 90% and everything else is failing, I’m hitting my 35th in a few days and I’m not in a situation that I thought I would be in at my age, I have become quite isolated and with out going into great detail my relationship of 13 years is quite a controlling, I have tried leaving in the past but have always gone back, I do love him but I worry for my future if I stay because right now if I left I would have no income, no house etc

I have a small amount of money set aside for emergencies and I was going to use this to rent somewhere and live until I found employment, I did however think that if I did this I would be in a empty house, miserable and bored and likely to go back after a few days, my other idea was to leave all of a sudden one morning and go somewhere on holiday so that I can’t just go back and I would be occupied, I’d normally go to Bavaria but after recent events I would rather not

On a impulse a few days ago I have booked a luxury villa in Orlando for a whole month along with a hire car and flights leaving on the 1st of September and I am going to buy a ticket for all the parks and with spending money it’s going to run into five figures, I have already paid for the villa, flights and car, I now really don’t know what to do, I’m really nervous about travelling on my own (I didn’t used to be and I did love going on holiday on my own but it was always in Europe) I don’t know if I can leave my partner, I have got incredible guilt because I’m acting normal like nothing is wrong and it’s like I’m lying, I worry that he won’t cope without me and I worry I won’t cope without him, I can’t cancel or I can and lose all that I have paid, I told my parents we are splitting up because I have given their address for any documents to be sent to although it’s all done online now, I have everything printed off and even picked my seat and have my rental car ready so I don’t need to go to the desk,

I might make a narcissistic thread about it so I can give updates :|

Damn, i wish i could advise you on what to do here, but i don't think there is anything i can say which would realistically help.

I'm guessing it was Karl who ripped you off in Bavaria too. :(

Really sorry to hear things have got so bad Richard.

It sounds like you might realise such an expensive trip abroad is not the smartest decision given financials. I imagine it can be very difficult and unnerving suddenly adjusting to a much lower expendable income, temporary or otherwise, but I'd suggest the best thing you can do is try to be as smart and frugal as possible. Until you get yourself secure for the future, you need to concentrate on making sure you'll be able to cover all your important outgoings such as living costs - having that money set aside for situations like this is really important.

Take care of yourself and try to be sensible, and I'm sure you'll work through whatever happens.

Thank you, I guess it has shown me how life can change but also things feel bad for me now but I know that I have family such as parents and siblings which I could go live with and would support me financially and it has made me think about people who don't have that network, that could be in a bad relationship and leave and literally have nowhere to go, in the past I have thought "they just need to get a job" but what if they have no address, no means of looking smart (suit etc) printing off a cv, travelling to interviews and the list goes on

The worst part for me at the moment is the overwhelming feeling of guilt, before this I don't think I have ever done anything to feel guilty about but this is seriously a feeling I have never felt before, people say "my stomachs in knots" when they are nervous but I have that feeling now pretty much all the time, the money is not a issue and losing what I have spent won't be great but in the long term won't change things very much (its just over £4,000) I would just feel stupid for wasting it, before booking it I felt so excited and on a high but as soon as I paid I regretted it (guess thats buyers remorse) but mainly it was the realisation that it could be over after 13 years and all the emotions that brings up, if I go it could be what I need, I would have a great time and come back ready to start new things on the other hand it could be a mistake, I just wish I had never meet my partner (his name is also Richard by the way, I have never said in the past because it sounds strange and like I would be speaking in the third person) then none of this would be an issue and I would be off on holiday

It has made me feel better writing all that down even though I'm still no closer in knowing what to do!

I hope things work out for you in the end Richard, it sounds rough.

If he's being controlling maybe it's for the best that you leave? It sounds unhealthy, but from what you're saying (the fact you've already told you're parents that it's happening, a lone holiday booked), it already seems like you're leaning on leaving. But at the same time, what's the reason you have got back together with him in the past after you've left?

If you do leave him, would a family member take you in till you're back on your feet? That way, you wouldn't feel alone or lonely till you've got yourself sorted.

I feel a little cruel saying this but it’s hard to have much sympathy for your money troubles when you spent so long on here showing off your wealth.

On the relationship side of things though it sounds like you need to get away. If he’s controlling and you wish you had never met him, then there is no (happy) future there. Move on, it sounds like your family are supportive and will help you out until you’re back on your feet.

After thinking about it, I don't think I was savage enough. In his "oh no I had to let a loyal employee go, I am so poor now" post, he also wrote:

Well I feel a bit pants. My cat had to spend the whole weekend in hospital after blood tests at the vets showed he was showing strong signs of kidney failure. Thankfully rather than putting him down as advised by the vet, we took him to the hospital and after fluids and antibiotics it appears he’s getting a bit better. They’re waiting on kidney sample results back but they think he’s got Chronic Kidney Disease which means he’s on borrowed time, but changing his diet to special renal food and making sure he get’s blood tests every month will mean his life expectancy will extend by two and a half times.

Only issue now is the £1,000 bill which was meant to be covered by our pet insurance but they’ve rejected the claim so we’re now scrambling around to find money to pay for the bill. Not ideal when you’ve got a mortgage and a kid to think about too. So yeah feel a bit pants and it’s playing on my mind all week, but I’m sure I’ll manage…somehow.

Sorry to hear that about your cat, sounds like you're doing your best to keep him happy and comfortable which is the main thing. I hear about pet insurance rejecting claims more often than they pay out, which seems about in line with insurers in general!

It might be hard to empathise given the situation (10k on a holiday is beyond madness to even my middle class English brain) but if Richard can feel better from venting his problems in this thread then I'm happy we can help, y'know? Plus my desk at work still has a kinex goomba on it he sent me one time so consider me successfully bribed ;)
