At least you don't have to bring in the chimney sweep.

She’s too busy with the milkman to have time for the chimney sweep.

I was in Berlin at the weekend to compete in the European International Championships, and ended up being one of the streamed feature matches. You can watch it on Twitch here, starting at 1h 36mins: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/416518046

Thrilled isn't the word. The day went extremely well, unfortunately in round 8 I narrowly missed out my win and in to advance to day 2 of the competition but my loss was against the winner of the previous e event of this size so I don't feel bad about that. I finished 150th out of 830 competitors and moved considerably closer to qualification for the World Championships in Washington DC this August.

So yeah. Feelin' fine.

Slightly odd question but whats the story with card sleeves there? Is there an issue if both players have the same colour?

There are a couple of reasons for it:
  • Protects the cards
  • Shuffles are much easier
  • Lessens the chances of marked card situations (eg if one card is damaged against the rest it becomes significantly easier to pick it out)

At one point I played a 58 card mirror match against an opponent using the same sleeves as me, so I was extra careful to make sure I hadn't picked up any of those during my shuffles. The game isn't hugely interactive and your cards never really touch the opponents, but there are some common areas where cards can quite easily get mixed up, so it was something I was conscious of. It isn't a problem in the rules, though.

Oh I know what theyre for, Im just wondering if the colour matters cos resleeving a whole deck for one match sounds like a complete pain.

I think with all card games (like Pokemon, MTG, yugioh etc) it's the same rules Wrathy said. I used to play yugioh a good while back and it was exactly the same. Only problem with yugioh is that sometimes the cards in hoie deck do get mixed in others decks due to effects of some of the cards, so if we had matching sleeves we would have to hunt through each other's decks afterwards to make sure we had our cards back.

so uhh I guess it is time for one of my charmingly irregular updates on the TCG

basically I qualified for the World Championships at the weekend so I will be going to Washington DC in August to play the biggest stage in the game. which is very exciting, obviously. it's my second time going and I've been playing at that level for about 18 months so its kind of a big deal, I guess.

I'm now going to spend the next 6 weeks doing normal people things until the 2020 season kicks off in July. personally im kind of annoyed about this (normally July is the off season) but whatever, gotta keep grinding

also im going to Ireland for the bank holiday and seeing Metallica twice in June so thats pretty great too

Wow, well done Wrathy! :toot:

I wouldn't know a bellsprout from a wigglytuff so all I can do is be impressed by your obvious skills! Is there a way to follow the championship online when the time comes?

When the time comes there'll be a twitch stream of the event (both video and card games are streamed, along with Pokken for those interested) and a website similar to this for the 2019 event will go online: https://www.pokemon.com/uk/play-pokemon ... 018/about/

Give it a few years, perhaps... as it stands my goals need a bit of reassessment but I'm keeping it modest with a day 2 appearance at a major being my next major milestone to hit. I was going to set "be in a streamed match" as a goal for 2020 season but obviously that one happened ahead of schedule!

It's going to be disgusting. :/ I'm not good at heat. Thankfully my hotel is super close to the venue this year so hopefully we can avoid the worst of it.

Yeah! It's a pretty nerdy and relatively expensive hobby but it gets me out and around the place doing stuff and meeting people, so it's not as bad as it sounds at first. :shifty:

Slower is seeing some play right now but I'm not sure if it's good at Worlds!
