Helldivers 2.

Not even once.

Been seeing this all over my TikTok feed, and it's got me interested. Never played the first, but the story doesn't exactly look like the kind of thing you need to be all up on before you go out blasting automatons or bugs.

There's practically no story to worry about and the second game has pretty much exactly the same scenario as the first.

This is really something special.

I just played this on my son’s ps5, it’s good fun but I can see it being amazing with friends. Any chance of a GRCade team up? Do it for managed democracy.

While I can use the in-game chat for PS5 players it would make things much easier if PS5 people could set up discord to use for in game chat. The volume levels are very hard to balance with in-game (and also means we can play with randoms without them hearing us chatting gooseberry fool about them).

The player cap for Helldivers 2 has been increased, but the CEO of developer Arrowhead Game Studios warns that it will still likely hit its limits.

In a post on X, Johan Pilestedt explained that the concurrent user (CCU) cap for the game had been increased to 700,000 players, but that he expected this limit to still be reached.

“I have one final update for tonight,” he wrote. “We have updated the max CCU cap to 700,000. Unfortunately, we expect the CCU to reach that level. We believe that the wait times will be much more bearable.

“Tomorrow we are doing some final improvements for the weekend.”

The game has been a huge success on Steam, where it hit a concurrent player peak of 457,649 on Wednesday (before taking PS5 players into account too).

The infrastructure can now support around 700k concurrent players... but that still might not be enough!

I played some games this afternoon/early evening and it went just fine.

I imagine over the weekend it will be tougher but I'll be too busy to play. ("I have weekend plans" humblebrag)

Been playing this off and on this weekend, doesn't help I've got a nasty cold though so voice chat is a no go. Just Trivial level maps so far, had some people join me, it's been fun. Don't dare approach Malevelon Creek yet, it looks insane.

I'm going to get this on PS5 and pay for a month's PS+, got really bad FOMO with this one :lol:

Don't get paid until Thursday though and then I have a weekend with the in-laws to look forward to so it's going to be a tortuous week or so before I get to jump in and spread some managed democracy for Super Earth

Let me know if you want to team up, this game really shines with comms co-op.

The scientist evacuation missions are a prime example of this. They are rock-solid with everything going to gooseberry fool in 5 minutes.

This is because the robots are attracted to noise. If you can get 3 people miles away causing a big ruckus one person can sneak with smoke orbitals and stealth armour and just rinse all the scientist evacs with no obstruction.

Good luck trying to get 3 randos to do that :lol:

Randomly matchmaked with some guys just running through "Kill Automatons" missions on Helldive for Xp, Req and medals because you can complete them in like 30 seconds.

Seems a bit of a waste of time to me, I can't see that there's anything really worth grinding for that you can't get fairly quickly in normal play anyway, and it's just boring. Not sure why you're even playing the game at that point.

I genuinely think that for those raised on the 360 generation onwards, grinding for gooseberry fool is just an ingrained habit. There's no thought to having fun, it's just "how can I maximise my gains" because that's all they've ever been taught to do.
