Also how the hell are you supposed to get to the bottom of the caves in the desert in a single go since it seems to have no checkpointing? There just doesn't seem to be enough time to do it. Is bringing a bunch of staircases to skip levels the only real way?

I think it can be done, but yeah staircases seem to be the most efficient way of doing it.

Staircases are the most definite method indeed. Also be sure to check the fortune channel on TV to see how lucky you are that day. I think there are 5 levels of luck basically being very bad, bad, neutral, good, very good. When it's high you're more likely to stumble upon holes instead of staircases, which drop you 3-15 levels at a time. You can also boost your luck with certain foods. It helps to take your time and learn all these things, as well as how to fight all the enemies, so you can best strategise and plan out your route.

Installing an elevator mod because I don't have time for that gooseberry fool also helps.

Spare a thought for those of us playing on Switch :(

I feel bad for console players not being able to mod the fishing.

You can't actually reach the bottom of the desert cave mine as its endless.

The furthest I've gotten without the elevator mod is floor 62, using a combination of a big stack of staircases, 80 odd salads (most cost effective food) and being lucky enough to uncover several potholes that dropped me by 10 floors.

It also helps to have a desert warp totem so you can spend the emtire day there.

I assumed you were all referring to the secret note mission. Otherwise, yes, skull caverns are endless. The deeper you go the more iridium you will find.

Just found out that the automation mod I'm using doesn't work with smelters.

Arse.

Remember, if you used mods, you didn't beat the game

Will be very tempted to start a new game when this latest update goes live on the Switch. The time feels right :datass:.

1.6 is out and for what started as a patch to help the modding community it's MASSIVE. I'll post a link to the change log it's nuts. There is no better time to jump back in than now (I'm at winter year 1 on a fresh save and loving it).

The amount of extra content he's given away free is extremely admirable.

Whenever this patch releases on the Switch, I suppose I might give this one last go.

Reminder for anyone using mods: you need to install the latest version of SMAPI to play v1.6 of Stardew Valley.
