Help me find a 90s Pokemon guide magazine (NOW the can you find evidence online that it existed CHALLENGE?)

When I was a kid, having gotten Pokemon Blue one Christmas in the late nineties, I had a guide book for the game - as I recall it was magazine shape and thickness, but it was a dedicated walkthrough to the Red and Blue versions.

Every now and then I'll try and hunt a copy down on the internet but everything I find doesn't seem to fit the game guide that I remember. So I'm asking in case any of you remember the same guide.

The specific bits that stick in my memory are:
- It had a "Pokedex" in the back that had several 'mon per page, listed in (what we now call) National Dex order, with all moves learnt through levelling up listed for each entry.
- Throughout the walkthrough, there were side boxes where Prof. Oak would state a "recommended" team for that point in the game.
- I'm pretty sure I remember it having a dark blue cover, though I could be wrong as I've found guides to the game that have this yet don't match the guide I recall.

So... ring any bells to anyone?

I’m wondering if it was the Nintendo Official Magazine’s Pokemon Master Guide, Dan?

This isn’t the first Red/Blue Volume 1 Edition, but it’s in the same series.

This link has a page showing Prof Oak giving out tips.

Pretty sure you're right jawa. I had the first edition with a shiny blue cover. Found this image of it:

If not that, maybe the official guide, which I've just dug out:

rinks - you beauty. That's the one.

Does it have Oak giving suggested teams throughout? Or have I invented that in my childlike memories?

"Man, I've looked all over for this totally obscure, niche, indie guide, but no-one seems to know what I'm talking about!"
"Was it the official guide for that game?"
"Wow, yes! How did you find it?"

I think Dan needs a new name to commemorate the occasion!

I don't think so. I'll have a look later. Let me know if you want any better quality photos of any particular pages.

Be fair though: even knowing it's the official guide, can you find a photo of it online?

I seem to recall buying it at the same time as the game, on release day, well before all those magazine guides flooded the market, so it might be rarer than the official tag would suggest.

Even when I search for the name of the guide, as it appears on the cover of the guide, Google still returns no results for it.

Thanks rinks!

In fact, even now that I have the cover, I STILL can't find any online evidence that this ever existed... apart from rinks' posts.

GR, I challenge you to do what I can't. I can't find a pdf, an eBay listing, any Image Search hits, it's not on any fan sites... nowhere.

There's an eBay listing for the Pokemon Yellow version, which looks like the same format, etc: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pokemon-Yell ... Sw4CFYrGlE

Otherwise the only thing I could find was some Dutch article on it which has a few pictures as well (all in Dutch): http://www.pixelcake.nl/throwback-thurs ... l/20140710

Second article on that page. Good challenge though.

Bloody hell! If that sells, I might be tempted to list mine. It's in better condition than that, and it's the first edition!
