For the record, I've always hated on TDK. In fact, I've always thought Batman was a bit rubbish, and only popular because he was popular with angsty teens who hated the world and wore black all the time to symbolise it.

Or maybe he's popular because he's one of the few 'superheros' with a bit of depth.

Parents dying does not equal depth. Then again, he is from a form of book where people still rely on the pictures to tell them what's happening.

In fairness, comics have just as much potential as anything else to tell a good story. I do think criticism of comics as a storyform is a little rich coming from a crowd who will willingly defend computer games' ability to do the same. Plus, do you not think that it's even more difficult to tell a good story when all you have is dialogue and pictures?

I'm assuming you missed Chris Evans as "Flame" in Fantastic Four. A treat for the eyes indeed.

Comic books relegated in your mind as just being pictures now? Wow. Comic books tell some amazing stories, there's also a lot of symoblism in a lot of them and generally everything in a scene gives off a particular theme.

It's no use Skarjo, i seem to remember MCN making comments about stories getting in the way of games. Maybe i should have revised my statement to "Relative depth", however i find Batman a very interesting character and although i am no comic book geek i do have an appreciation for the Dark Knight Returns stuff.

I think it's thoroughly immense, anyway, and no amount of whining from MCN can make me think otherwise. I got amazingly hyped for the film, and it lived up to my expectations, which was a great feeling. And Heath Ledger was strawberry floating awesome in this. FACT.

*opinion.

I would like to know how you people find the time to read all of these books and watch all of these crap films and STILL find the time to have a higher post count than me.

Its always the same. Whenever anything comes along that is universally praised. Someone will always have to take an opposing and, in this case, ludicrous stance against it. MCN your opinion of DK is questionable. Your derisory comments about comics are execrable.

You know that feeling when you're in a seminar or a lecture or you're sitting at home and your eyes feel heavy and you're struggling so much to stay awake?

I had that for the duration of The Dark Knight.

Last book I read (finished last night, actually) was "One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich", which I recommend to anyone. Before that were "Do Ants Have Arseholes?" and "Why Don't Penguins' Feet Freeze?". Today, I bought "Do Polar Bears Get Lonely?". I am also a big fan of the works of Douglas Adams, and have his entire published works stashed away somewhere.

What were you expecting from the film? It was known for about a year before it came out that it was going to go for a darker approach to a superhero film, every single trailer, preview, poster and tv spot emphasised this point. I'll admit the film was far too long (a good hour) and some segments were a bit pants (the unnecessary Hong Kong bit) but overall the film is miles better than just about every other superhero film.
