Its always the same. Whenever anything comes along that is universally praised. Someone will always have to take an opposing and, in this case, ludicrous stance against it. MCN your opinion of DK is questionable. Your derisory comments about comics are execrable.

I would like to know how you people find the time to read all of these books and watch all of these crap films and STILL find the time to have a higher post count than me.

You know that feeling when you're in a seminar or a lecture or you're sitting at home and your eyes feel heavy and you're struggling so much to stay awake?

I had that for the duration of The Dark Knight.

Last book I read (finished last night, actually) was "One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich", which I recommend to anyone. Before that were "Do Ants Have Arseholes?" and "Why Don't Penguins' Feet Freeze?". Today, I bought "Do Polar Bears Get Lonely?". I am also a big fan of the works of Douglas Adams, and have his entire published works stashed away somewhere.

What were you expecting from the film? It was known for about a year before it came out that it was going to go for a darker approach to a superhero film, every single trailer, preview, poster and tv spot emphasised this point. I'll admit the film was far too long (a good hour) and some segments were a bit pants (the unnecessary Hong Kong bit) but overall the film is miles better than just about every other superhero film.

What would you say if I told you a guy who's read Crime and Punishment and the Collected Works of Oscar Wilde said Watchmen was outstanding?

I was expecting something similar to Spiderman with exciting action and a nice love story on the side. I'm 100% serious when I say that I spent the first half of the film completely confused at why none of the characters were using their powers (although, I didn't actually know what they were so it was going to be a surprise). I did not view any trailer, preview or poster of the film, aside from those adverts for that disgusting Burger King meat slab.

I don't tend to enjoy anything when I'm sleep deprived.

Now we know his opinions are valid. Don't we feel silly!?

I've never heard of "Why don't penguin's feet freeze?" but it must be a pretty short book since the answer is "Counter-current circulation".

Also; You're still wrong.

I'll hazard a guess that Why Don't Penguins Feet Freeze is one of those collection of various tidbits of information crammed in one. Not a real novel then, just a lazy present. I imagine the same for Do Ants Have Arseholes? and Do Polar Bears Get Lonely?.

It could be a sequel to "Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep?"

Now, that's a good book.

Are you sure you haven't heard of it? When Karlprof mentioned getting that book back on old GR, you said:

I thought that was gooseberry fool. They didn't even have real superpowers. They were just replicants!

"Do Penguins Feet Freeze" and "Do Polar Bears Get Lonely" and both by New Scientist magazine, and are collections of questions and subsequent replies from the Last Word section of the magazine. "Do Ants Have Arseholes" is a parody of this.

I prefer my literature to have some grounding in reality. Even Douglas Adams' work manages to have some scientific and philosophical backing to it.
