Some of those old videos attacking Anita Sarkeesian showed up in my recommendations, and out of curiosity I wanted to see what those people were up to now. Most of them were dead channels with nothing uploaded in years.
One of those channels was Troy Leavitt's, whose twitter profile lists his current project as Hogwarts Legacy. His Linkedin page lists him as the Lead Designer at Avalanche.
His YouTube channel and twitter account are full of ant-sjw videos and tweets.
Jason Schreier has reported on the fact that ResetEra has banned the game from their boards. Should get the issue noticed a bit more widely than perhaps it has been

I know the moderation can be OTT but the site go to great efforts to make sure all marginalised groups feel comfortable and happy using the forum and this is very much an extension of that. They should be commended for that in my opinion.

It's ok you can still buy and play the game as you're looking forward to it
Era not wanting to support the game's creators who have done real harm to certain groups of people, including some of their own members, is also a very fair choice to make.

Exactly. They're overzealous, and have made mistakes in the past, but they stand hard by principles of diversity and equality.
In one video, Leavitt claims that he made his employers at Warner Bros. aware of the channel after being hired at Avalanche Software in February 2018 and that they didn’t seem too worried about its content.
“Some of you have expressed that, due to my commentary on some game industry controversies and my sympathies for the Gamergate movement, that I might have a difficult time should I ever want to return to professional game development,” Leavitt said. “I’m happy to say that, even though I disclosed my YouTube channel to WB Games, it didn’t appear to be an issue for them. Not that they endorse anything that I’ve said, of course, but at least they seem more concerned with making good games than with pushing some kind of a social justice agenda, so there is hope.”
Yeah, although it's also entirely possible that nobody at WB bothered to actually look at his YT account in any real detail. Which is also pretty damning of their due diligence
It's such a shame what the people involved with this have turned out to be. So many fans have been wanting a game exactly like this for years now and when it was finally coming it becomes impossible to support it because of the unforgivable views of some of the biggest people involved.
I love the Harry Potter IP so so much, and loved going to the Harry Potter areas of Universal Studios, getting some of the merchandise, but it's just become more and more tainted. It had such a huge impact on so many people growing up and for so many of the people Rowling is now spouting hate for they felt they'd found a world of inclusivity, then get that just snatched away from them in one of the worst ways possible.

I think it's OK to, like, quietly have fun with this game after getting it second-hand (or pirating it!). I just think when a game has awful people involved in creating it - the far-right project lead, the transphobe franchise creator - it sometimes becomes a bit of a symbol of those views. That's definitely happened now with this game, and I personally think it's important to not directly support a work like that with my hype or money. Taking a bit of a stance against it on principle lets me say, "ah, yeah, I personally didn't want to get that game..." and explain why. I think being able to do that is important to me because I believe that it could have a small influence on people I talk to. (It won't always, but it might occasionally!)
