If the entire dev team poured all of the same kind of hate into this game as Rowling does on social media, then I would probably do a complete 180 on my opinion. I just think trying to coheres people into not buying a game is out of line, that's pretty much it.

It would have to be the entire team?

Yeah, I'm not buying it. If people do that's up to them, but I'd rather not be supportive of the owner of the IP.

Buying Hogwarts Legacy and being anti-trans rights are not synonymous with one another so, seeing as we're a little over 3 weeks away from launch, I would just urge everyone not to let others frame it as some moral or political statement on their behalf. If it reviews well I'll be looking at this as something to enjoy towards the end of the year - they seem to have nailed the aesthetics, customisation and combat (mechanically at least), so hopefully the story holds up just as well.

You could just stop with these daft mental gymnastics and straight up say you care more about your silly little wizard game than you do about trans rights.

As opposed to someone who's not even directly involved? Absolutely.

I'd like nothing more than for people to just talk about the goddamn game - either with positive or negative opinions - based on its own merits.

That's weird, because it looked to me like the thread hadn't been posted in for 5 days until you decided to go full "Colin from Portsmouth" rather than talking about the game.

And yet, while I did go on to address my intentions regarding how I feel the game is shaping up to be, I've also (perhaps wrongly) accepted that isn't going to be allowed to happen. But if you're saying that's ok, then halleluiah, let's just discuss the game.

Maybe, maybe not. Is that now being considered a core aspect of whether the game is good or not?

Yubel siding with the guy who did the video game web comic about a miscarriage, I see.

The only prejudice I've expressed is toward those who set out to dictate people's personal spending and enjoyment, equating a video game purchase to a definitive political stance - most egregiously, on that persons behalf. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Seeing as the drama is so ingrained with this product however, I decided to address that aspect of it before then pivoting to how I feel about the game itself. Like I said, if I've falsely interpreted that the two can be discussed independent of one another (either positively or negatively), that's more than ideal.

As it is though, I'm just not mentally built for the stress brought on by these sudden floods of responses, which is why I've decided to refrain from discussing both the game and politics surrounding it.
