I know the moderation can be OTT but the site go to great efforts to make sure all marginalised groups feel comfortable and happy using the forum and this is very much an extension of that. They should be commended for that in my opinion.
Exactly. They're overzealous, and have made mistakes in the past, but they stand hard by principles of diversity and equality.
On ResetEra some people can be aggressive and bullying. Of course it's good to have values that support everybody including people from marginalised groups but there are people who thinks this should get them off the hook for any other behaviour, shouting people down, disrespectful, nastiness to anybody. Additionally, this fictional conversation is based on something I read there:
John: I’m out of the loop on this one, can you get me up to date on what he did to upset everyone?
Jim: Two years ago he said X to Jason. strawberry float Jason.
John: Oh god, strawberry float jason!
Jack: strawberry float Jason.
Jayden: strawberry float JASON.
Joshua: strawberry float JASON.
goes on for a page or so
I can't remember what the story was, probably Jason did deserve to be called out! I've read a few like this and it's not a meme or in joke (as far as I can tell) but it's the mentality where everybody feels they have to demonstrate they are in agreement with everybody else, that they are in compliance. Also, I see people banned for the most trivial disagreements, or new types of labels created to described alleged wrong doings that's just sounds bonkers,
no fly-by cross posting in hardware forums to praise a platform because it's really a dig at people in another thread using another platform! Because it's the gaming forum you can occasionally get some good insights from the industry, but there is also a lot of abrasiveness.
