Also I noticed you can actually save the game at any time and don't actually need a bench which kinda really sucks...

If I could level any complaint against the game, it would be that it has secrets you practically need to read a wiki or guide to find, breakable walls chief amongst them (especially the path of pain).

On saving, is it not a single save thing where it gets deleted on reload? So no different to putting the game on sleep?

I’m fairly sure you gave me nonsense about this when I said it a while back. :P

The issue is more so that the breakable walls appear to have no real indication they're breakable. Path of Pain seemed completely random, though it's at the very beginning of another path so it's like a branching path. The floor for White Defender isn't crumbly like it usually would be, though it is in a significant area that makes sense when you do it.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a permanent save. You go to Quit to Main Menu on the pause menu and it says "Your progress will be saved". Free teleport back to your last bench.

I mean, I used the guide to see it was in Crystal Peak. I still searched most of the area and found it myself. Just a secret I had missed. It wasn't entirely random.

Don't forget it's halfway up the wall so you have to jump to hit it too - meaning you can't just run up to the wall and tap it to check if you are suspicious

Ye exactly. The God DLC is similar too? Or did it have cracks?

I never went back to play that DLC so

@Balla I'm sure if I did it was a well-reasoned and nuanced point I was making :P

It's tough, though I don't think you're missing much other than lore and new bosses.

And I agree. Also, if you ever don't quote me again there'll be consequences. I live for notifications from quotes.

It looks like more of a boss challenge than anything else, I liked having bosses but only because they paced the exploration of the world better. I like the game as a metroidvania with exploration, not just a boss rush.

Also the DLC seemed to cater to the "we want even more difficult bosses" crowd and that's probably not me, the bosses in the main game and Grimm Troupe were enough.

Sorry

Jezo you have some really good points there. ;)

As far as I remember it was something like, ‘Hollow Knight is great in every way because I say so, blah blah blah.’ I’m positive that’s an accurate paraphrasing. Especially the last three words.

I mean, he's not wrong. Hollow Knight easily top 50 games.

Enjoying this on Switch Lite. Has scratched a Dark Souls itch I've had for a while.

Love the risk reward gameplay when it comes to exploring new areas.

Been back to this after several months away, finally worked out where I left off and am now progressing at a good pace. Thought I might be near the end, but I think it now turns out that that's rather unlikely
Love this game it's so good and gorgeous

strawberry float Godhome man, actually a painful DLC. Trying to do the final pantheon but it seems to be a boss rush of every single boss in the game (with I'm guessing 3 new bosses mixed in. Sisters of Battle was sick). It's not too bad, just gotta practice a couple bosses I'm less familiar with. But all the other pantheons are already a 10-boss rush, why I gotta do the same thing again with greater consequences if I lose?

The bindings are absolute overkill as well. I get it, it's meant to be hard, but it actually isn't. It just instead drags out fights for longer than they need to be, especially when you're used to all of your upgrades that you earned throughout the game. I don't think I'll be doing that part of the game, which really sucks cause I hear the reward is kinda cool, and I've done pretty much everything else the game has to offer; I even beat Grey Prince Zote 10 times to get that gold statue.

Bit unsure where to go now, seems that everywhere is blocked off by those black forcefield things

I got this in the sale a few weeks back and have only just got round to giving it a proper go. Whilst I quite like it, I've got to say there are some pretty big flaws. The benches are a terrible save system. You rest, then enter a new area, get relatively far and die, then have to go all the way back. Why are they so strawberry floating far apart? It's one of the worst checkpoint systems in a game that I can recall. I've wasted so much time basically retracing my steps that I'm already getting a bit bored of the game.

It's not actually even that hard for the most part, but the save system is awful.

I'll persevere for a bit, but the save system is really ruining it. Glad I got it in the sale. Compared the Ori this is pretty lame.

Same reason why new areas aren't automatically mapped out: it wants you to feel a sense of danger (and adventure). But eventually you will gain traversal abilities which will make the journey back less of a pain. Slightly.

The only time I found the bench system a royal pain was for boss fights, a couple meant you had a decent trek back to the boss if you got beat (so I had to do the same rooms and awful lot for a couple of the bosses). Other than that it wasn’t too bad, could have been slightly better/more benches though so it’ll be interesting to see which direction Silksong heads in.
