If you could respawn on the screen you were on there would be no risk to death, therefore no fear of death. Having distance between benches as SoK says is pretty integral to the putting the player in danger and raising the stakes beyond trivial. That's deliberate to make you play the game in a certain way - you are strongly discouraged from just trial and error run-and-gunning it through. The fear of death forces you to take calculated risks and ups the tension.

Literally my approach for Celeste kek

But yeah, every room isn't meant to be a 'room' per se in the sense that you just 'figure it out' and it becomes easy. It's meant to be a dynamic, seamless world.

Well, exactly. Celeste is built around that approach, and they are two very different games. There's nothing inherently wrong with either approach but they work differently and make for different experiences.

In Celeste you're never faced with the choice of heading back to safety or pressing on into the unknown - Hollow Knight presents that to the player often, especially early on when the game is all about exploration for exploration's sake.

After not getting into this back in 2018, I restarted at the weekend and now am in absolute love with the game. Everything about it is perfect, the difficulty, the platforming, the combat, the atmosphere, the visuals, the music, the ambient sounds, the maps, the systems. What a strawberry floating great game this is, possibly sneaking into my top 5 of all time

It's got a few too many annoyances to quite trouble my top games lists but it's a damn fine experience and I can't wait for Silksong to experience more of what it has to offer.

I just started playing this. At first, I found it a little frustrating-I wandered around aimlessly and then died and lost a load of money. Then I wandered around some more, found and beat the first boss, realised you could retrieve your lost cash, bought a load of items and now it’s really clicking. Love the music and atmosphere especially. Excited to play more.

Great to read people giving it a chance and it winning them over. Took me the longest time to even play it ( after being gifted it! How ungrateful can you get??) and then even longer between sessions and it winning me over my finally realising how special it was.

I clocked up 80 hours before I saw the first ending, but I’m at the extreme end of exploring.

I think I was on about 45 hours for my play through of this but I do like to explore so it can definitely be completing quicker than that.

Really looking forward to Silksong :toot:

I was on about 35 to 40 hours when I saw the normal ending, loved what I played of it.

This is so good and very much worth keeping hidden from new players

Isn’t doing that the only way to get one of the charms as well? Or am I thinking of something else in there.

It hurts! Cuts deep like a knife!

Gave him/her the full amount too only to find a cardboard cutout

I don't think I ever really took advantage of the banker, always seemed like a bad idea!
