They seem to factor heavily the 'industry status' of the games they review rather than if they're actually enjoyable games or not. Which is fair enough, but almost all of their 10/10s are big budget tentpole games and Nintendo games.
Just a reminder they gave the first little big planet a 10/10
So you're reminding me they have good taste?
Lbp is good, but it's not a perfect game and it certainly doesn't hold up by today's standards. Same goes for GTA4/5. They are good ambitious games but the moment to moment gameplay is pretty meh.

I'm definitely dying a lot more than I remember in the first game.
Elden Ring is out and I feel like that meme of the guy looking over his shoulder. Staying strong for Aloy though.
The enemies attacks just seem a lot more vicious and the starting bow is weedy, but, as I said, I'm really enjoying it. I like being back in the world and the new characters, even the smaller npc roles, are great.

I just bought a very rare sharpshot bow that killed the anteater machines in one hit
I'm still finding it pretty difficult though! Spent this morning just exploring the map, upgrading my pouches and ignoring the main quest and I had a really enjoyable time.
Hoping I can unlock whatever I need to open those blue flower devices soon as I've found a few of them now.
Think I'm 20 hours in but I'm still constantly blown away by how good it looks.
I'm not sure what you're referring to, as I'm so early on in the story, already wandering off in the wilderness, just climbing rockfaces, etc, to see what I discover. One of the problems I'm having is that I've just finished Ratchet, which has similar controls, but the buttons for things are in different places, I keep pressing triangle to bring up my weapon wheel, which is leading to a lot of deaths. The controls are also quite complex; you have a lot of options, I'll get there, but I'm rubbish at the mo. Kinda wish I'd replayed the first one before going in.
