Awesome, I've been playing quite a bit of Zero Dawn since getting my PS5 and finding I'm enjoying it a lot more than I was before so I'm getting quite excited for Forbidden West. Wish they would give it a 60fps update though
I really want to see the sequel go for the feels given by the original game's concept art. (Namely that of hunting and taking down machines with a group of other characters / players.) As much as I liked the first game, nothing in it gave off the kind of vibe which got me most excited about the first 2 pieces of concept art here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS4/comments/6 ... wn_looked/ (Not counting the cool idea of "robo dinos".)
As beautiful the original was, it was actually dull as dishwater, especially the sidequests. A lot of them revolves you getting an item or save a person that’s miles away and go back to finish the quest, so I end up using the quick travel system a lot.
I don’t expect the sequel to be any different but please god, have some variety.
Thankfully the systems based combat loop added a lot of variety and was really satisfying, but I mostly agree. I need to play the DLC actually, and quite tempted thinking back to how much I enjoyed parts of the game.
I'm getting right back into ZD at the moment, the story and side quests are largely bobbins but the combat and exploration can be fantastic at times (really hope they rip off the both the paraglider and rock climbing from BOTW for the sequel though - it's begging for it!)
Turning off all the HUD elements and objective markers has made it a much more interesting game to play and actually helped to make me feel part of what is actually a really fantastic world that they have created.

I thought the story was actually fantastic..
Maybe it gets better...
The fragmented way I've played the game probably doesn't help, I've been on and off with it for over a year now so the narrative hasn't exactly been at the forefront of my mind!

It really grabbed me about a third of the way in, in my opinion it's top tier, for a video game.

Ah nice. I'm not entirely sure how far in I actually am at this point. I've explored the whole map but I haven't really progressed the story beyond the point of first reaching Meridian.

It's the way the game slowly reveals the way in which the world ended up in such a state, i was hooked.
Same, I really enjoyed the story. But I did all the side quest stuff first, so was able to rinse off story missions one after another which really helped with pacing.
