Turning off all the HUD elements and objective markers has made it a much more interesting game to play and actually helped to make me feel part of what is actually a really fantastic world that they have created.

I thought the story was actually fantastic..

Maybe it gets better...

The fragmented way I've played the game probably doesn't help, I've been on and off with it for over a year now so the narrative hasn't exactly been at the forefront of my mind!

It really grabbed me about a third of the way in, in my opinion it's top tier, for a video game.

Ah nice. I'm not entirely sure how far in I actually am at this point. I've explored the whole map but I haven't really progressed the story beyond the point of first reaching Meridian.

How are you getting on with ZD, story grabbed you yet?

I'm really enjoying the game, the story is warming up a bit - it's still broadly trading the path I expected of it but it's enjoyable following the breadcrumb trail of the past!

Mainly I've found that turning off all of the HUD elements and just setting myself loose on the world to explore and hunt things down without all the clutter of objective markers and icons has made the game a really nice experience. Just picking a direction or interesting piece of geography and heading out to see what it brings is great. Right now I've set myself the quest of getting all the resources I need to trade for all of the best "purple" class weapons, tracking down and looting wildlife and machines to find the stuff I need has been a lot of fun :D

Great, glad you're enjoying it. I found the combat so engaging that I would rarely use fast travel, I just enjoyed being in the world, taking down machines as I made my way to the nest check point.

I estimate I'll be about 25% through my backlog by that point so that's fine by me!

I'd always rather wait and let developers have the time to finish the game to their satisfaction than see things forced out too soon

Delaying is always the right thing to do.

Expected and glad for it. After finishing HZD for the time just a few weeks ago my hype for this game just shot up to another level.

Might be able to get a PS5 by the time it's released then.

Not hugely excited by this game but good news for ps5 owners that it's pretty early in 22.

I'm the opposite, it took me a while to get into Horizon but eventually the first game got its hooks into me so this is probably one of the things I'm most looking forward to on PS5! :toot:

I've restarted it a few times without getting too far into it. May pick this up again with the 60fps patch for PS5. Also found the little Alloy character model to be quite unsettling.

60fps will definitely make it feel nicer I think so it's worth giving it another go now that's out.

Like I say I took a while to get into it as well, I don't think it opens particularly well personally - the early sections are quite restrictive on what you can do and are very cutscene heavy, the story takes a while to get to the more interesting elements as well. Once they let you properly loose and you start to expand your skillset and face a wider variety of enemies it really starts to come to life!

I've done the same and only got a few hours in each time.

I'm very tempted to save it now for when I inevitably get a PS5. The frame rate on PS4 was a real struggle. 60fps would make a huge difference.

Are you on a Pro or base PS4? I don't remember having many framerate issues on the Pro but I did have it set to performance mode rather than graphics.

It still looks bloody amazing even 4 years on, running at 60 on PS5 is going to make it feel so nice.

I'm on a pro. Can't remember if I tried performance or graphics to be honest.

I've got a backlog so I'm thinking put it to the back for now and get the 60fps option when I get a PS5 next year or year after.

Probably fine for most but something to note.
