I'm so glad they changed the health plant from red to blue

obviously lore wise it makes zero sense but it's nice that you can easily spot them from a distance now instead of mistaking them for that fire plant thing.

They looked almost identical in zero dawn.

I'm going to start using the job option in this to mark items I need for crafting as I really want to max out all my arrow quivers and other item storage.

I had a great battle earlier with some big enemies. At the of it I collected all of the machine parts and looted loads of dead animals that had been trampled to death. RIP Dave the racoon and his family.

The boss fight in the tutorial was excellent, and the fight against the two Bristlebacks near Chainscrape was set up to be immensely satisfying (chain reaction acid explosions boyeeeee), so as far as I’m concerned the game is 2 for 2 in excellent set piece encounters.

Watching some streams of this. It looks nice but there’s something about Aloy I find really annoying. Whether it’s the excessive yammering or her painfully earnest tone throughout I’m not sure. The floaty hair waving around nonstop doesn’t help either.

I'm not far in but Aloy is coming across much more smug and self satisfied with her knowledge

If it was part of her character arc then that's great. My guess, however, is that it's pish writing.

I think they just took the idea of “isn’t it stupid how RPGs have the hero running errands or taking their time to chat with everyone when they’re supposed to be saving the world from a very imminent threat?” and ran with it.

It can grate a little with some players because her tone is completely off base with the player themselves. When the player’s thinking “oh, look who it is, your old friend. Wonder how they’re doing”, or “I want to explore and see all the quests” Aloy’s often just in a perpetual state of “ugh, I don’t have TIME for this”.

A lot of players seems to lack empathy for the main character or at least don't like it when the main character's mental state doesn't align with their's.

Last of Us 2 for example.

Tonally it makes complete sense Aloy is rushed and annoyed. Imagine the stress she is under.

But obviously I haven't played a great deal yet so we'll see how things go.

Guys how annoying is it that the tagline is Rise Above Our Ruin?

The Our forces an awkward stress and ruins the iambic flow. So you say Rise Above OUR Ruin or awkwardly say the stressed Our like a too-early beat.

Why was it not Rise Above The Ruin or something - to make it natural and rhythmic.

(it might be just me)

Put another 6 hours in today. Up to 17 hours total play, level 25 and got some good story based items and now have a lot more freedom to explore.

Story has taken a strange tone, not a fan at the minute, as I worry it's going to go all Assassin's Creed and get far too complex and big.

The new machines are so good. I've been exploring a lot and found so many new enemy types. I didn't know they had boosted the number of enemies so much. I've nearly died a couple of times when trying to kill new enemies and then something huge arrives and throws all sorts of elemental attacks at me.

I still need much better bows but I think I'll focus on getting all the longnecks unlocked first and then go exploring proper.

Played about 3 hours tonight.

I've got a good purple hunters bow which makes a big difference. I then managed to unlock another long neck and another cauldron. Cauldron was a nice short one and I liked the puzzle elements.

I then decided to head off to find more long necks and .... Had an epic encounter... I visited the beach and just stood there looking at a huge new machine. Then decided to battle it. After a lot of running away, slowing time and triple arrows from my new bow I took it down. Epic stuff.

I wasn't a fan of the new spear weapon but it's a life saver for bigger enemies.

I like it, makes the world feel like a real place with real people.

Plus you can just skip the dialogue if you want.

Why are those spears meant to be so good on bigger enemies?

I've started just not asking them about things I'm not interested in :shifty:

Just fought a huge mammoth creature. That was fun.

I am really enjoying the game, I just wish it had come out at a less busy time of year. So many games out this month and I do think I should have waited to get this later on when I had more time.

I've now got 2 purple bows and a good throwing spear. The throwing spear is basically a sticky grenade that blows up a little after impact, it's really great when a machine is huge and an easy target to hit and it'll hard to miss.

I've found another cauldron and the last scrapper mission giver. So that's my next few hours planned out.

The diversity in this game is really well done. Great to see a game that just does it makes it feel so natural.

One of the best things about the game is the amount of locations and how different they all are. The beach is my personal favourite so, it looks stunning as does the snow.
