I just got bored with the game in the end and didn't finish it. I wasn't engaged with the characters or the story to the point where I eventually just mashed the button to skip all the conversation. Compare that to the witcher 3 that I'm playing at the moment where the dialogue is so good I'm just sitting and listening to every word.

Looks absolutely incredible though, and the fights can be great fun although there's something about them that's not as good as the first game to me, but I'm not sure what. I'll go back and finish it one day.

Likewise, I will go back to it one day and I just felt burnt out with the open world adventure. It looks stunning, but I find it boring.

I also can't believe that 5 years after BotW they think they can get away with this clunky ass climbing mechanic :dread:

I'm not giving up on it yet, but it's going to need to kick up another gear if I'm going to have any chance of seeing it through to the end

Anyone else getting that DLC on April 19th? It £15.99 digital PS5 only.

I'm looking forward to it and hopefully some good new weapons, machines and environments

Think I might give up on this, it's just not engaging me and I really cannot gel with the combat experience :(

It doesn't help that Aloy refuses to shut up for one second while doing anything outside a cutscene.

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores launches April 19 on PS5! This expansion sees Aloy pursue a sinister threat in the untamed wilds of Los Angeles, now a treacherous volcanic archipelago.

I still haven't finished this, despite loving the first game.

I think it's because they vastly increased how Grindy the game is: more upgrades and part collecting for comparatively less power.

The world map is also super overwhelming. Doing everything in the first game was fun, in this it felt like a daunting chore. Especially with how farming intensive upgrading stuff is.

That's one sturdy Hollywood sign.

I really enjoyed this but preferred the first game. For me the intrigue came from the mystery of what happened to the old world and how things ended up like they did. This was mostly resolved by the conclusion of the first game. I don’t find the tribes all that interesting or compelling. Exploring old world ruins are fantastic but doing tedious quests for some generic tribe less so.

Having said that I’m still interested in the DLC. Also I don’t think I ever noticed Aloy over talking, certainly it never annoyed me. It’s become a common developer tool having characters narrate to help guide players and prevent them getting lost or knowing where to go, some games balance it better than others. I recall GOW ragnarok was criticised for how quickly it resorted to giving you answers.

I think I agree with with every single word you have said. I will pick up the DLC at some point, but not day 1 given other sizeable games just around the corner.

Aloy was already too talkative in the first game, and this one has only made it worse IMO. It's not a game-killing thing obviously, but it is often annoying.

It doesn't help that games often try to use narration from the characters to assist the player and often it's more frustrating than it is helpful, quite a few times I've had Aloy just randomly blurt out something like "I wonder what that is" or "There's something down there" - but there's absolutely nothing of note anywhere to be seen so you end up more frustrated trying to search for something which doesn't appear to be there and getting annoyed that you might have missed something which you would probably have been fine about - ignorance can be bliss!

Also I've had so many cases where they just haven't implemented the in-gameplay dialog systems well - Aloy just randomly deciding to talk over the top of someone else, two NPCs trying to tell your their gooseberry fool at the same time, Aloy talking over the top of an audio log you're trying to listen to etc.

Think I might just stick it down to Story mode, put all the HUD icons back on and blast trough things that way, rather than trying to play it in a more organic way

While I preferred the story of zero Dawn I do feel that Forbidden West does start to get more interesting by the end and some late plot revelations do leave things set up nicely for a sequel.

I also felt the character of Sylens was under utilised. He was a compelling antagonist with grey morality and by far the most interesting of the “new world” characters. Lance Reddick gave an excellent performance and his passing means we may not get resolution to the character (or they will have to recast).

Tomorrow? No. But I will pick it up, and am very much looking forward to going back to that world.

It will probably be on the other side of Zelda though, maybe towards the end of the year.

Continue to get frustrated by this, was actually quite enjoying myself this evening having a bit of an explore into places that looked interesting and stumbling on some stuff, then I find an intriguing looking fortified location and it hits me with an invisible wall and "Can't enter this location" message. Don't make a strawberry floating open world if it's not going to be open FFS! Or at least come up with barriers that make sense in universe!! :x

Just started the DLC expansion.

Great to get back into it, few things better than triple arrows to the face of a dinosaur.

It sounds like it's not too long an expansion in terms of playtime? I actually consider that a positive, as it means I am more inclined to integrate some of the side stuff I have not engaged with much in the base game.

I saw one review (Dreamcast guy) who said the main dlc story was about 4.5 hours. So far it's good fun. It has the usual horizon issues of a billion things to collect and slightly clunky climbing.

I've met one new machine so far which was a great design and was fun to battle.

Also level cap has gone from 50 to 60 and some new skills added to the bottom of each skill tree.
