I do enjoy a good horror game, but I'll freely admit that most terrify me. I guess that is kind of the point, but playing Silent Hill Downpour last night, and nearly soiling myself on a few occasions, I did begin to wonder why I regular put myself through these adventures in terror. And I know I'll do it again this evening. I guess I just like the rush it gives me.

What about yourselves. Do you like a good scare from a video game, or do you avoid them completely?

I do like a good scare however I'm not sure I have the balls for VR horror right now.

I'm a total wuss with any genuinely scary games, I once attempted to play one of the Project Zero games and lasted about 10 minutes before wimping out.

Oddly, horror films don't really scare me at all so I guess its the interactive nature of games that amplify the sense of terror.

Agreed. I enjoy horror movies but they don't get my heart pounding like a horror game. I think the last horror film that genuinely freaked me out was Ju-On: The Grudge (original).

I ain't no pussy so I ain't scared of games

Joking aside.

I honestly don't think I've been scared by games, like I get tense at some and love the atmosphere, think to ZombiU, the nursery section was amazing. I love to play them and I think I want to go and play some of the game on PS4 that I forgot the name of where there's a Jason like guy killing peeps soon and maybe a few other games.

Depends really. If I enjoy the game beyond just the scares, as with Resi7, SOMA and Observer, I'll plough through. If the scares are the point, like in Amnesia and Five Nights at Freddie's, I'm out.

I do like me some Luigi's Mansion, particularly 2.

Really though I'm a wuss and have barely played horror games or seek them out. Redeads in OoT scared me when I was younger. I used to find the first part of Metroid Prime terrifying, wandering through that wrecked ship not knowing what might pop out. Playing through Resi 4 later was my attempt at dipping my toes in the genre, but I know it's not particularly scary by Resi standards. I found it mostly fine but admittedly some moments did scare the crap out of me and the Regeneradors probably still would scare me.

Scaredy cat AF right here. Year Walk is about my limit, and even then I resent the jump scare.

Everybody should play The Cat Lady, maybe the most atmospheric horror game I've ever played.

One of my favourite horror titles. Lights off, headphones on. I know a few folk who can't play it at all as they find it too frightening.

While it’s not my favourite genre of games (or films for that matter) my opinion is broadly similar for the two, if I see a horror game or film I really like the look of I'll see it, even if it might scare me a little while watching/playing. I’m not one just to watch a horror film or buy a game just for the sake of a scare or two though.

Yeah there was a few jumps in Maiden of Black Water from what I remember. Really good game though although I felt it dragged a bit in the latter stages.

Reveal the Deep is a nice little indie game if you're after a spooky atmosphere but not as intense as some other horror titles.

I’m replaying re7 at the mo and it’s scared me out of my seat a couple times already. Loving the atmosphere and the effort Capcom put into characterising the Baker family. Gorgeous game, even on my creaky 970.

A special mention also for the Dead Space trilogy, and Evil Within series.

On the other hand, there have been a slew of rubbish Resi knock-offs (Cold Fear and Blue Stinger both come to mind), generic sci-if garbage not worthy of consideration as survival horror.

RE7 in VR is horrific. Even I found that too much to cope with.

I desperately want to play Kitty Horrorshow's ANATOMY as it's supposed to be one of the most unsettling games ever made

https://kittyhorrorshow.itch.io/anatomy

The whole thing is a slow trip through a house and things go from mundane to super strawberry floating weird whilst a commentary on what having a home actually means plays out.

Good, if a bit overdone, video about it here.

Haven't played many horror games to be honest, Until Dawn was pretty good fun though.
