Despite listening to hours and hours of music a day, it occurred to me how rarely I stop completely and just listen to music properly.

I listen while I work, exercise, cook, clean/tidy etc etc and I would struggle to do some of those things without music, but I never truly stop and just enjoy music anymore.

I think one of my New Year's resolution is going to be to try and do that a couple of times a week.

With the exception of a couple of discs, I sold my CD collection around five years ago as I have used Spotify since.

However, I got into the habits of creating playlist of songs and until a couple of years ago I realised that I was not listening to full albums anymore. Instead, I was cherry picking a few songs and pumping them into a playlist. This saddened me as there are plenty of examples where listening to an album start to finish is such a superior experience than putting it on shuffle or listening to specific songs only.

Despite whatever impression I may have given off in the Albums of the Year thread, I absolutely love love love music and spend all my working day listening to choons or podcasts.

Right now, I am listening to Join the Q by The Qemists. If you fancy some electronic rock, give it a bash.

My hi-fi broke a few years back so I stopped playing my CDs then. Now I mainly listen to music whilst I'm on my computer by streaming radio stations in the background. I quite enjoy this!

Out of curiosity how many CDs was it how much did you get for it?

Your habit with playlists is exactly what I do, and I think is a common by product of using Spotify. Spotify is a great tool for finding new artists, I find the recommendations very good, but I tend to love a few tracks by a new artist, add them to a playlist and then repeat. I never investigate an artist's back catalogue deeper.

Spotify, either through my phone with headphones or streamed to the soundbar in the house. Complete albums only, no strawberry floating playlists.

Amazon Music Unlimited, on my phone, with headphones.

Or via an Echo Dot if I'm doing housework.

I'll either just shuffle my entire collection or listen to an album I'm in the mood for. Can't stand the playlists or stations as they only seem to play singles.

Around 150, I sold them at a bootsale for something like £2 each. I fully expected to come home with a few but because they were so cheap, many people were happy to take punts on stuff they'd never heard of (after asking me for a description).

Something I also suffered from. It's very easy to do but also easy to change!

"it's all just Radiohead and Coldplay clones"

;)

£2 each is pretty good going to be fair!

Spotify on my phone with headphones, mostly when I'm working.

Recently I've been trying to pick up more stuff on Bandcamp, either CDs or digital, because I felt bad about Spotify being such shitholes to the artists with their tiny cut.

But then I can't be arsed to manually put that music into Spotify playlists, so

I usually listen to albums while I'm doing other things. As for how I access music, I tend to prefer to buy albums and listen to them on my MP3 player. I only really use Spotify for albums I can't find to buy or to discover new artists. I tend to get frustrated when Spotify loses the rights to songs I like and so I lose access to them.

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

I find music to be a much more personal and intimate thing than TV/movies so whilst I'm fine with subscribing to Netflix for watching stuff I really don't like the Spotify subscription model for music. I much prefer to actually own the stuff I listen to as I hate the idea that I'll wake up one day and find that it has been ditched off the service.

No Marvin Gaye or Barry White in the MHTL household.

I mostly listen to music at work, but this year because of working from home I've listened to a lot less. I have a sansa clip with rockbox ("it plays doom!") with a huge SD card so everything is on there, either ripped off CD or downloaded. I use youtube quite a lot though to listen to various OSTs.

At home, Spotify through the shitty single speaker on my phone, just as the artist intended.

Surely that's how you're supposed to listen to music whilst on a bus or hanging around outside an off licence?

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
