Flat because it’s a lot neater, we don’t really have a lot of canned foods apart from some of the pets foods and they all have ringpulls

I don't understand why people aren't removing the lid completely with the karate chop way, are you just lazy and don't go all the way around?. Odd.

Also, I don't say can or can opener, it's tin and tin opener, and can is what I drink me pop from.

The karate options can remove it too, you just go all the way round I stead of stopping a half cm from the end. You then get a lidless can but no sharp top.

People that go for karate chop are probably the same people that have the toilet paper with the bit hanging down at the back.

As someone who has to has tidy up waste packaging in an almost obsessive fashion, it has to be the karate chop. That way, the detached lid can be dropped into the bottom of the can when it becomes empty. You can't do that with the flat method.

With the karate chop method , though, it is important to give the top of a can a wipe before removing, as quite often they are rather dirty, and as has been noted, the outer side of the lid may come in to contact with the can contents.

Nah it’s a tin of tuna, but a can of baked beans.

When I do use an opener, I use the one which doesn't leave a sharp edge of the lid. Otherwise, the only cans I open are cans of tuna and those all (well, the John West and Sainsbury's No Drain ones) have a ring pull on them.

If they were made of tin, I'd call them tins.

But they're made of can, so I call them cans.

Almost everything seems to have a ring pull these days so I can't actually remember the last time I would have used a tin opener (and it is a tin people, please conform ) but whenever I do use one it's Karate Chop all the way - cleaner, safer, easier to tidy up.

A quick look on everyone's most trusted website "why key pee dire" (wikipedia) indicates that the whole approach of storing food in tin cans was created by a Frenchman, so this whole debate will be irrelevant once we go full Brexit and ditch anything like this that has been forced upon us by those evil Europeans. We'll go back to the good old British way of getting our baked beans from the supermarket and just scoop them up with our bare hands and sling them in the bottom of a bag for life.

"Tinned" foods are nearly all made from steel, they contain some tin but they are over 99% steel.

So they can either be called canned foods or steeled food...your choice on if you want to sound like a tit or a sane and rational human being.

Likewise, drinks are wrapped up in aluminium. I personally enjoy the odd aluminiumed drink. If you're a proper heathen you might even enjoy an aluminumed drink.

I just shove them in sideways using the flat top method. Keeps them safe an secure so there's no chance of escaping into the recyling bin ready to sever my ulnar artery as I transfer them to the big black bin outside. (To be fair I just tip the inside bin straight into the outside bin so it makes so real difference.)

Whilst it is mostly steel that makes it up the material they are made of is literally called "Tinplate".

Makes it easy to drain the contents.

Ring-pulls are an unnecessary expense and waste of manufacturing, using a tin opener isn't hard.

Anyone who calls a tin a can is a bottom feeder. Cans are what drinks come in.

Coz it falls into the tin and can be hard to get out. Plus, it's in one piece then, just easier to dispose of.

Tinplate is a Daily Mail readers way of making sense of the world. It's tin coated steel plate but that was too much new thinking for someone that grew up in the good old days of tin coated iron cans and thus tinplate has stuck around, even though it's made of 99.7% steel.

It's like claiming that CocaCola counts as one of your 5 a day because at some point in the manufacturing process they bothered to use a vegetable.
