The new consoles will cause a buzz but cash strapped parents aren't going to be able to afford the asking price, so I expect a few kids will be getting a Wii U for Christmas rather than a PS4 or XBO.

As for the XBO, I don't expect MS to backtrack on their policies - the console has been designed for them to have control. I expect they will just discount it to get it into everyone's home (either slashing prices or a bundle of some sort).

And the PS3 and 360 will cost less than a Wii U. Which begs the question, why would kids want one?

To play Mario and Donkey games, which seem to have uncool cartoon graphics... and not involve shooting. I want a COD mommy.

Yeah, PS3 and 360 have massive, varied game libraries now and support for those consoles looks to be continuing for quite some time. MS even have the new 360 out!

Because the Wii U will be considered as a new console. As I said, the kids won't necessarily want one, but parents who can't afford the "real" next gen asking price, may settle for something that is still new, but a bit (a lot) cheaper.

Yes?

Have you got kids? Because that isn't how it works. I've got two lads, 8 and 10. And they both are going on about the PS4. If I bought a Wii U, it'd be strawberry floating carnage.

Xbox One will be neck and neck with PS4 in the US

Wii U to fail everywhere and be replaced 2015/2016 by a handheld that hooks up to your TV.

Fully compatible with Wii U and 3DS games?

At this stage I honestly don't have a clue. PS4 is the obvious choice at the moment but I still think Microsoft have something up their sleeve. The idea that they could misjudge the market so badly is hard to get my head around so I am assuming they have to be hiding something they believe can swing things their way. At the moment the obvious option is offering discounted hardware in partnership with companies like Sky and Comcast but if that was going to happen then surely it should have been announced already?

Yes, but I also have money.
I know of some kids who wanted an iPad last Christmas who got some cheapo Android tablet. Less spoilt kids will be more accepting.

Yes?

ps4 to put sony back to ps2 domination.

wiiu and xbone to stuggle for customers. Wiiu in the end to finish ahead by a good few million.

PS 4 to win by a large portion, I have never bought a PS but this gen I think it is the only acceptable option and I have bought both the original x box and 360.

Anyone want to update their predictions now?

Pachter has:
We are confident that with six months of focused messaging, Microsoft can fully level the playing field with Sony, and we expect the Xbox One to sell as many units as the PS4. If we are wrong, we think that Microsoft is prepared to lower price next year.

http://www.videogamer.com/news/xbox_one ... chter.html

I still think it'll be PS4 > X1 > WiiU, but I'd put X1 a lot closer to PS4 now with MS scrapping the DRM and used games policies.

So you're going to get one right? Birthday morning, hand him a wrapped present, pad the parcel to look bigger.

PS4 will win by the sheer fact it'll be available in a lot more markets.

Now the back steps of XBONE they will pull a lot more of their loyal fanbace back raising Pre Orders and also damaging Sony in the process. However despite this I think that the danged they originally done will still work in Sony's favor and they will come out on top.

Before I was thinking PS4 > WiiU > Xbone

Now PS4 > Xbone > WiiU

So we're all agreed then? The Wii U is danged beyond repair?

I think the PS4 will out sell the XBO in Europe and Japan (No gooseberry fool Sherlock). As far as the US and UK go, it's pretty difficult to say, if they were the same price, then I would say little would change from the current gen, but I think the $100/£80 will make a difference, so we could be looking at fairly even sales, in those territories.

I think MS has bank rolled a number of exclusives, to get get things moving early on, but perhaps the number of exclusives will diminish over time, in part due to Sony's larger studio base, but, perhaps more importantly, I think MS's lacklustre performance in Japan may lead to more PS4 exclusives coming from that nation. I suppose the question is whether we, in the west, will want to play them.....

Has he said something more than what was quoted above? Seems to be saying there that he thinks it'll rival PS4 sales now.

The 'big name' first party games are arriving; Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong and Zelda will all be available before Christmas, as well as titles like Wonderful 101 and Sonic Lost World. I've no doubt that revised console-plus-game packs will be on shelves for November. The PS4 and Xbox One consoles will initially be way too expensive for mass popularity, and the games will be out of the reach of many at circa £50 each.

Only a few days ago many people were writing off the Xbox One... things can quickly change and opinions altered accordingly. With Sony and Microsoft squaring up to each other, I feel that Nintendo will benefit through offering a cheaper option with big-name characters, backed up by plenty of advertising. Twelve months from now I reckon the U will have a wide, attractive games catalogue that is supported by cheaper console packages to draw people in.
