The 'big name' first party games are arriving; Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong and Zelda will all be available before Christmas, as well as titles like Wonderful 101 and Sonic Lost World. I've no doubt that revised console-plus-game packs will be on shelves for November. The PS4 and Xbox One consoles will initially be way too expensive for mass popularity, and the games will be out of the reach of many at circa £50 each.

Only a few days ago many people were writing off the Xbox One... things can quickly change and opinions altered accordingly. With Sony and Microsoft squaring up to each other, I feel that Nintendo will benefit through offering a cheaper option with big-name characters, backed up by plenty of advertising. Twelve months from now I reckon the U will have a wide, attractive games catalogue that is supported by cheaper console packages to draw people in.

I was just making fun of Rubix's typo tbh.

I can see it being a bit of a slow start for MS but they should get stronger as the generation goes on.

Not a popular opinion I'm sure, but maybe most people just don't care about Nintendo's games any more?

I'm sure people will care - once the games actually come out. That's the thing, only an idiot would buy a console for games that aren't out yet.

I wouldn't say that... just look at the success of 3DS game sales recently. The machine was absolutely slated for quite a while after launch but following a slew of top quality titles it has garnered so much respect. I'd suggest it was the the popularity of the games even above the price cut that turned fortunes around.

It's not a huge stretch to imagine that a similar path of events will take place with the Wii U. Nintendo shouldn't have had to undertake a re-run of this but, even though it didn't learn from the 3DS launch, it has the games, funds and know-how to drive up Wii U popularity.

To be fair, the 3ds didn't have the competition the Wii U has. It needs an official price cut, that's for sure.

It's hard to say at this point. Anything could happen in the next 7 years. I don't think anyone could have predicted the 360 'winning' this generation before it launched. (Yeah, technically Wii...)

One thing I will predict is that the WiiU will tank. After this I think Nintendo may go handheld only. Or possibly release a Oculus Rift style VirtualBoy 2.

Wii U is the first console I have ever seen that was listed as a "clearance product" in a store. :fp:

The 360 did not "win" this generation worldwide. It won in the USA and UK but it is currently in third place worldwide.

PS4 and Xbox 360 will both sell up to double their older brothers. Wii U will sell considerably less, but will recover somewhat from it's current position. I'm expecting closer to Gamecube than Wii sales figures.
