Almost quadrupled the average speed of the Plusnet router :datass:

I’ve been considering doing this too, but every time I look into it, I read that certain kits are not compatible with the Plusnet routers, so I get cold feet. What have you invested in? (And which router do you have?)

I have the Amazon Eero 3 packThis one, but got it at half price during Black Friday.

I still have the standard Plusnet router (not sure which model but think it's the currently provided one) which despite being not fully compatible seems to work perfectly fine without changing any settings or general faffing about, the only caveat being that some advanced features like blocking certain devices, limiting access times and content blocking don't work (currenntly) but as I don't need any of that I'm fairly happy with it.

Cheers. I actually had a kit (TPLink, I think) in my Amazon basket in Black Friday week, but by the time I’d checked compatibility it was sold out, and I now resent paying full price!

I'll wait for 200 Terabits.

I bet Origin downloads are still slow as strawberry float though.

At this speed, it would take less than an hour to download the data that made up the world’s first image of a black hole (which, because of its size, had to be stored on half a ton of hard drives and transported by plane).

That's a big strawberry floating image

Upgraded our home internet yesterday so we're now getting about 150mpbs which is about the best we can expect now until someone gets their act together and extends the fibre rollout in our area

I don't know if it's the weather or everyone staying in self isolating but our speed has dropped something horrible, to the point that any streaming is basically impossible.

Turns out sky is having loads of problems at the moment, so thankfully not just me.

I'm with Sky (not fibre though), and it's much the same as normal at the moment.

My biggest issue was that my upload speed used to be 1mb, but now it's roughly half that which is a pain when it comes to my youtube uploading (it happened when my router had to be turned on/off after freezing and i've not tried the on/off method again because i didn't want to make things worse, i openly admit i am incredibly paranoid when it comes to maintaining a stable connection).

Just come off the phone with my supplier. They're upgrading my 300mbs fibre-optic connection to 900mbs for a few quid more than I'm currently paying.

Should kick in in a few hours.
900 up, 900 down :datass: :toot:

Moved house two and a half years ago, had to leave behind my 200mbps Virgin connection and the best I could get was 35mbps here. Just been informed Openreach have completed an upgrade in the area, and I can get up to 900mpbs now. So I've gone and ordered it. Will need a visit from an Openreach engineer in two weeks, but I'm going to use it as an opportunity to set up a Mesh network too. I think they're going to send me another router, just like the one I have as part of signing up, and I think I could use that, but might be easier just to get one of those Eero systems.

They were apparently doing work in our area before Christmas that was related to network upgrades so I'm really hoping that I'll be able to switch to something faster in the near future too, we're currently on ~60Mbps which is fine for most stuff but it would be lovely to have something really fast for a change!

Should be on 500 up 500 down but it's close enough. Might be as I'm not wired into the router.

It's fast enough that I can play games on xcloud/stadia fine with no input lag, and then stream those games back out via twitch while my partner watches netflix with no impact.

Anybody here use a mobile network for home internet? I want to sack Virgin off because they're hideously expensive, but they're also the only fibre provider on our road. The thought of switching to ADSL broadband at 10Mbps is pretty horrifying, so I've been looking into mobile operators for 4G or 5G home routers. 5G coverage isn't here yet, but should be soon, and even on my mobile, (through Three,) I get 25Mbps onSpeedtest, which is a significant improvement over phone ADSL.

Weirdly, although I get 4G signal at home with Three, when I look on their site, their home broadband says it's unavailable in my postcode. My understanding was that it's just a router with a sim card in it, so unsure why they think I can't get 4G here when I already am getting it on another contract. Would I be safe to order one anyway and just have it connect to the network automatically?
